Greg TraynorHOST
So keen to hear about that, but also just how it got you to energy in the first place as you went through.

Eric DavidsGUEST
So I did start my career in the Marines, and I unfortunately never had the privilege of visiting Darwin.

Eric DavidsGUEST
There's a base up there that Marines rotate through, and my tour instead was to Okinawa.

So do you have, say, in the ERCOT market, do you have in your plans, do you have things that sort of can put guardrails around price-responsive tariffs?

Sohail HasnieHOST
What do you get? Do you share those benefits or you are reducing overall cost base of your charging? That's your motivation.

Eric DavidsGUEST
Yeah, we're able to reduce the cost to serve across the portfolio of our customers.

Eric DavidsGUEST
So we can offer more attractive, flat, easily understood prices to end customers in exchange for a customer saying, and we aren't asking a customer to say, hey, go and unplug your EV during these times.

Eric DavidsGUEST
We say the outcome you're trying to achieve is a fully charged electric vehicle in the morning time.

Eric DavidsGUEST
So that's how we approach these types of situations rather than necessarily trying to nudge customers every moment of the day to say, stop using, start using.

What do you tell those CEOs, those companies? What to do today so that they can be up to a synergy tomorrow or in the near future?

So that for a lack of trying to date, or is that for a lack of effectiveness? Or is that there are some other barriers in place for the American end user that aren't in place for European ones?

Eric DavidsGUEST
Yeah, well, maybe I'll start by sharing sort of Octopus's approach to flexibility and what's worked in the UK particularly quite well, and then move into sort of what of that can translate to the US and what of that we have trouble translating.

Eric DavidsGUEST
And one of the sort of things that I think about when I think about flexibility is someone who has an energy bill and they might have an EV, they might have a thermostat.

Eric DavidsGUEST
However, in the U.S. right now, someone pays their energy bill to their regulated utility.

Eric DavidsGUEST
They might receive a incentive for being part of a thermostat demand response program.

Eric DavidsGUEST
And they might have a separate program where they have their EV enrolled in a managed charging program and they receive a gift card every year for being part of that program.
