What was the defining experience that brought you to this point?

I think we look back on these things with 20-20 vision and we can go, that's the moment that everything changed.

For context, I was born in the outback and then grew up in a little fishing village from the age of eight that was incredibly isolated.

And so I used to volunteer to hang out the laundry in in the hope that if I sung loud enough, some tourist who was visiting our little village might hear me and whisk me away like a Disney princess to somewhere where I wasn't living in a fishing village with 300 people.

And through a series of events, by the time I was 16, I was singing with a professional level ensemble in places like the Sydney Opera House.

But part of that constellation of events also meant that there was a music teacher who didn't like the sound of my voice.

And as an adult, you look back and you go, well, that was their aesthetic choice.
