So Undertek exists because of my 13 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy.

And I feel very privileged to have a very diverse career where I operated in lots of different types of environments, operational deployments, different types of PPE were worn, a number of operational deployments to the Middle East.

And during that time I identified a gap which disproportionately affects the female workforce and that is most of the protective equipment in which we are issued was never designed around our bodies and our anatomical needs.

Body armour is a plate and that plate is hard because it's designed to take impact of incoming bullets or shrapnel.

James RileyHOST
So talk us through, like, what have you brought to it? You've obviously got rid of some of the materials that are flammable or at risk of melting, but tell us what you've done.

Throughout my 13 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy, I was quite fortunate to have a very diverse career operating across different types of training establishments, operational deployments to the Middle East under Slipper and Manatel.

And throughout that time, I had exposure to different risk profiles, different types of PPE.

And I experienced that a lot of the protective gear and a, and a lot of the uniforms, particularly when I joined, were not designed around my body.
E
5:22Emily PykeGUEST
I identified that starting with the products worn closest to our skin, which is the most critical unmanaged and unprotected gap, and mandated in a number of protective equipment policies and uniform policies across high-risk sectors, where the undergarments are part of the protective ensemble, and they need to be at a certain fire-resistant or fire-safe level.
E

And so for a woman, uh, needing to wear a bra at all times throughout any type of role that I'm conducting, any type of uniform, protective equipment, there is nothing on the commercial market that was ever designed to be worn In the physically demanding and dynamic environment of, of the ADF and, and defense forces globally.
