What would you say is the most common overcorrection that you see, athletes who fix one mistake by overshooting into a new one?
13:21
Yeah, this one I think is, is quite, uh, an easy answer 'cause it's quite a common thing that I talk about on video calls with customers.
13:28
Um, and that is when it's hot, a lot of people use carb drink mixes and carb electrolyte drink mixes, so they're getting everything from one source.
13:36
What happens during a race when it's hot is you wanna drink more.
13:39
Your sweat rate goes up, so you drink more of this carb electrolyte drink mix, say, and therefore your carb numbers go up as well.
13:46
And people, it's harder on the gut just drinking more of this very carb-rich fluid.
13:50
Um, and people come across gut issues that way.
14:28
Any other common mistakes that you see from pros or amateurs on race day?
1:39
What were some of the challenges in your mind with, with optimizing nutrition for a race like that? 'Cause that's a very critical part of, of her success, Rachel's.
1:51
Yeah.
1:52
I'm-- I think it's just the unknowns of the extra duration of, of what that entails, and I guess there's more things that could go wrong.
1:59
Um, and it's just about kind of having, I'd say, like, more backup plan, plans.
2:04
And the-- one of my biggest takeaways, or I think, like, even going into, like, Madeira with you guys and having crewed more over the last few years is, like, starting to plan way, way ahead of these races and, and have, like, backup options, backup, um, in terms of nutrition, hydration, like, hot weather plans versus cold weather plans.
2:22
And for Cocodona, because of its huge duration, the strategy does change throughout, and there's times where Rachel is leaning more towards, like, gels and chews, and then other times, especially during the night, where we leant way more on the real food that she was having at aid stations.
2:38
It's being able to, like, be flexible on the go, but still have this plan that is just consistent across 60 hours of racing.

Mm-hmm.
