Can you kind of break that down and what this new market is and why it was something that the region was ready for or was looking towards?

Elliot MainzerGUEST
It's been a really, really important and consequential period of history here the last 12 years in WECC.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
When you think back to 2010, 2011, 2012, the CAISO was operating its energy market, you know, in California.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
Certainly, folks from outside of the state participated in that market to one degree or another.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
But it was really back at that time when other regions outside of California were starting to see more renewable energy development, more volatility on their systems, more transmission congestion, things like that, and the CAISO said, "Look, we're operating this energy market.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
We can extend it out into your systems at relatively low cost on a voluntary basis, and you can take advantage of all the technology that we've built and the efficiency of this market." And that was the beginning of the WEIM, with Pacific Corp signing up originally back in 2013, 2014.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
And 12 years later, as of today, we still have about 80% of Of the utility load in the West participating in the Western Energy Imbalance Market.

Will this be in the form of a quarterly report, or what will that look like?

I think as you acknowledged, I mean, this is where, you know, the, the data center revolution, the whole artificial intelligence ecosystem was originated in California.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
As a matter of fact, we are already, um, in the process of building out the grid in the Silicon Valley to accommodate the next wave of growth.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
As you pointed out, uh, there is a lot of work to try to determine right now, uh, between the Energy Commission and the utilities just exactly how large that growth is going to be in the coming years, and so we're working very closely with the regulatory agencies.

Elliot MainzerGUEST
Our next, uh, phase of transmission planning will incorporate the very, very latest forecasts, and we'll continue to try to stay ahead of the curve on that.

And so, you know, from the operator point of view, is it really a problem when individuals in California take matters into their own hands? Who are deploying the batteries that you can see?
