in empathy that are you know the lesbians characters lover who has internalized this sort of like lack of empathy for anna or for whoever's speaking and sarah shulman has another essay that or it's like a book but there's like sections of the book that i've read i haven't read the whole thing where she talks about there being like a lack of accountability to say lesbian people in relationships who are in relationships would say like straight women or closeted women or whatever and because they have internalized this view of them being not worth like there's no they don't have any responsibility to those people as lovers because the dominant culture doesn't have responsibility to them and like has a lack of empathy for them and i feel like the split with like doc and anna is like so interesting for that reason because it's like her like doc is like anna's like protective shell you know she she like hasn't had like a caring relationship until the end where she meets dora which i learned is also a freudian reference another case a really really dark one i mean anna oh is pretty dark but dora is pretty bad um yeah so like i think that is like it's quite like the redemptive arc but that doc needed to exist up until that point in order for anna to be like protected against this sort of lack of empathy and lack of responsibility that after her
