If you had one little nugget of advice or instruction for someone who's started to write a little bit.
9:16
Yes.
9:17
I have two things I can say.
9:20
One is, and this is for everybody, including beginners and more experienced writers, is slow down and don't rush through whatever it is that you're telling us.
9:34
that often people rush, I think, out of a lack of confidence, like this will be boring if I take too long describing this tree or my mother or store that I went into, whatever it is.
9:51
But the opposite is actually true, that although we eventually have to get rid of the extraneous, that if we take time for detail and description, the likelihood that the poem will be interesting to somebody else is greater.
10:09
So slow down, take your time, and trust, you know, just trust.

And what a beautiful way to go through the world, to go through your life, to know, like, where's your bent? And then is there any way to move from it or expand it or try another way? The way that you've looked at these poems, I think, have helped me see more of how can we bring them into our lives and the way we go through a day.
