Elizabeth Warren

United States Senator

Oct 21, 2026

13:43
Do you think that he needs to address that contradiction?
13:48
So look, really, that's where we're gonna make the focus.
13:51
So Susan Collins has all this money coming in against her.
13:55
Elon Musk has come in and put, I don't know, what are the numbers now? How many tens of millions of dollars? And we're gonna say, oops, Troy Jackson may have gotten one of his numbers wrong.
14:07
He may have gotten contributions from four billionaires.
14:10
I wanna get all the billionaires out.
14:12
I want to make this really clear.
15:50
Why do you think that is in those two races? You
0:04
Your thoughts on whether rescheduling of cannabis in Massachusetts has worked, been successful, whatever metric you
0:14
want to use.
0:17
Let me do it this way.
0:18
We could make improvements in the operations, but overall, legalizing cannabis... is better than continuing an unregulated underground
0:48
Have you been surprised by that effort? Or par for the course?
0:55
I understand... that we don't have all the right answers on cannabis yet.
1:06
Yeah.
1:08
Forgive me.
35:52
What's your reaction?
35:55
Well, so don't you find it interesting that here we are in the last 24 days before the election? And what is Donald Trump doing? Is he getting out there trying to lower costs for families? Is he trying to shut down the war halfway around the world? Is he trying to help families out that are paying too much for gas or for groceries? Is he doing anything to say, I'm on your side and trying to make this a country that works better for you? Nope.
36:27
What Donald Trump's out there doing is saying, what can I stir up? And really trying to raise the specter.
36:33
Is he going to try to cheat in the election? Is he going to try to somehow disrupt things so that Democrats don't vote so that...
36:42
He thinks this is going to be his best chance to be able to keep Republicans in power in the House and the Senate and in other races around the country.
36:54
And, you know, here's the thing.
36:57
The American people are on to this.
40:52
If a truck driver in Worcester, for example, is going to pay less this winter because of imported Russian diesel, do you still view that as a betrayal? You have called on this administration to do something to lower winter bills for New Englanders this winter.
46:04
and video chips.
46:06
And they have three of those things.
46:08
They have the power.
46:09
They have the people.
46:10
They have the data.
46:12
They don't have the cutting edge chips.
46:14
Now, we have export controls in the United States.
47:52
And then that could become the standard for the globe and we lose our competitive
8:01
The president has made clear he doesn't think that there should be constraints on AI because of the race with China.
8:08
Is that legitimate? That is exactly backwards.
8:11
He is worried about the race with China.
8:14
What is the one thing that China needs that it cannot produce on its own? It has power, it has people, it has data.
8:22
What it doesn't have are the really fancy cutting edge chips, the ones that permit you to do the frontier AI, the ones they can use in their weapons systems.
8:34
We are the ones.
8:36
who design and control those.
10:50
What do you think that looks like over the next two years if Congress, the federal government, is not going to take any steps on

blanket or whatever it is out of this dirt.
1:32
My name is Elizabeth Warren and I spend my free time picking up trash.
1:37
How did you get into that? Well, I've always been the kind of person that sees something on the ground that doesn't belong there and picks it up.
1:46
And that was never a hobby or something that I set out to do with intention.
1:50
It's just kind of by the by.
1:52
And then probably starting in 2020 during the pandemic, I just noticed a lot more trash.
2:03
I don't know if there was actually more garbage in the environment around me or if I just had more time to notice it.

9 MINS LATER

10:41
Things that aren't exactly trash?
26:40
Why not?
26:42
Well, let's just start right where you are.
26:45
This bill is all about supercharging Donald Trump's opportunities to rake in more and more and more money on crypto, and to do it in ways where, let's just be blunt, it kinda looks a lot like doing bribes right out in the open.
27:05
And this bill says, "Have at it, Donald Trump." In addition to that, this is a bill that puts our national security at risk, it puts our economy at risk, and doesn't have enough protection for ordinary consumers.
27:23
Uh, so it's a really terrible bill, but it's got Donald Trump's 110% support.
28:31
[laughs]
28:31
This is Donald Trump saying, "What matters and matters most is passing a bill that will help Donald Trump make his next 1.4 billion on crypto even faster," a way to scrape up and rake in and pull in even more money for Donald Trump and the Trump family.
28:55
And it's just, it's all happening right out in public.
22:52
You haven't endorsed there, but is she someone that you might campaign with if she wins the nomination? Look,
22:58
she wins a nomination.
22:59
I am there to help however I can.
23:03
I want to see Democrats win in November.
23:07
And the reason I want to do that is because we are so tightly focused on these questions around cost and corruption.
23:14
You know, I was just down in Georgia this past weekend to be there, partly to campaign for Senator Ossoff, who's running for reelection.
23:25
But I was also there to talk about the road to housing.
Donald TrumpSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
25:47
You know what happens when we send it up, but we hope we don't have to.
21:09
Do you think Democrats will be conducting oversight into these strikes if they take the Senate back?
21:15
Oh, yes, I do.
21:16
I think that, that a big shift if Democrats are able to take back the House and the Senate, obviously legislation is part of it.
21:26
For those of us [laughs] in the Senate it's going to be nominations, confirmations in the Supreme Court, but it's oversight.
21:34
This is a huge job of the United States Congress.
21:38
What is astonishing is that none of this has happened already, and the reason it hasn't happened already is the Republicans have had their spines surgically removed.
21:50
They just, they are afraid to do anything that might anger Donald Trump.
25:17
How do you feel about how things are shaping up in the Senate?
1:46
Senator Warren, why are you endorsing Lieutenant Governor Flanagan for this job?
1:52
I've known Peggy for over 15 years, and I see right now in Washington that that we need real fighters who will make real change, not the pretend fighters, not the wimps who will say, yeah, yeah, but there's nothing I can do, people who will actually fight.
2:11
And the thing about Peggy is she fights and she delivers.
2:15
She actually has the receipts.
2:18
And that's the kind of people we need right now in Washington to say enough.
2:25
It is time to make real change.
2:27
It's time to stand up.

6 MINS LATER

8:37
And Senator Warren, when you get them alone, When you get them all alone, I don't care whether it's a cup of coffee or a beer, and you talk to them, do they ever on the other side of the aisle concede the fact that there's work to do here and that they're just not getting it done?
11:51
Talk to us about it from your perspective.
11:53
So, so first of all, let me just set the stage for you.
11:56
You know, we've worked on this thing for a year and a half because we are in a housing crisis.
12:03
Prices are too high.
12:04
They're too high for home buyers.
12:06
They're too high for renters.
12:08
The average age of a first-time home buyer in America now is 40 years old because of how high housing prices are.

12 MINS LATER

24:00
It's like a Trump organization being run by your Republican colleagues.
69:58
Is that a fair description? That is
69:59
absolutely a fair description.
70:01
But here's the good news from it.
70:04
First of all, there are pieces in this bill that are real.
70:07
They will make a real financial difference and make it fast.
70:10
Few manufactured housing.
70:14
There's a piece in the bill that changes the requirements for getting access to federal funding when you're doing manufactured housing rather than building on site.
74:48
I mean, why can't we get some of that in Massachusetts, and why can't we do that, or will we ever, on the federal level? Right,

שהגרם יגרם את הסביבה אם טראמפ תגרם את הסביבה?
2:30
I can't imagine that's
2:31
where they want to go.
2:33
Look, just remember, the year before Donald Trump was elected, he campaigned.
2:39
getting out every day and saying he would lower costs on day one.
2:46
So here we are on day 500 and something or other.
2:50
And the cost of groceries is up.
2:52
The cost of health care is up.
5:12
not where we are right
39:29
What is going on here?
39:31
Well, let's start with the real problem that Donald Trump has got, and that is he's losing.
39:38
Remember, uh, he ran for years saying he would lower costs on day one, and here we are on day 500 and a zillion, and the cost of groceries is up, the cost of utilities is up, the cost of healthcare is way up, the cost of gasoline is up, the cost of housing is up.
39:58
And what's Donald Trump doing? That all happens because of his policies, his tariff policies, his energy policies, his healthcare policies, and his decision to drop bombs halfway around the world.
40:13
So Democrats and Republicans worked together over here in the Senate a year and a half, and in the House, to say, "Let's do what we can to bring down the cost of housing." And we put together this bill that would help build more housing at a lower cost that'll bring down prices, and that will actually block private equity from coming in and buying up houses.
40:42
A good bill.
40:43
Passes the House, uh, by a huge margin.
43:24
Uh, there were a lot of different Democrats who, who won primaries last night, but as you look to the results, what, what do you, what's your takeaway? What do you think they mean or what we should take away from them?
7:41
I mean, when the president first announced that he was not gonna be signing this bill today, what was your first reaction?
7:46
I, I thought it was some kind of joke.
7:48
I really did.
7:49
I thought it was a Borowitz Report of some kind because [laughs] the Republicans were already out there trying to take credit for the bill, talking about what a great bill it is.
7:59
And they should, because it is a great bill.
8:03
When's the last time you saw a bill that could pass the Senate with huge margins, Democrats and Republicans, pass the House with huge margins? And understand, it didn't pass because we watered everything down to, well, "Oh, we'll do a study or a blue ribbon commission." This is a bill that does two really big things.
8:26
The first one is it has nearly 50 provisions that are all about expanding housing supply.
12:53
Do you think Congress will override it if Trump vetoes it?
3:53
Is Senator Scott as frustrated as you are?
3:56
You know, I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I really do want to say that Senator Scott has been a terrific partner in making this bill happen.
4:08
Republicans and Democrats worked together.
4:11
And you know, here's the amazing thing, Alicia.
4:14
We didn't just water everything down so nothing matters, you know, a study or a blue ribbon commission.
4:21
There's a lot of meaningful provisions in here.
4:24
And not every one applies to every city, because this is not about the federal government coming in and saying, okay, here are the 49 things you need to do in your town.

7 MINS LATER

11:22
It would seem that this moment, when there was about to actually be delivery on the economy being held hostage because of Donald Trump's threats to democracy, actually puts the picture in stark relief.
31:13
So do you think this moves the needle on Save America? Does the Hill respond to that? No, I don't think so at all.
31:20
Look, we are here to lower costs for American families.
31:25
That is our job.
31:26
This is what families tell us they want.
31:29
People across this country are saying that housing is high on their list of the costs that they are struggling with.
31:38
And so we have worked, not only Republican to Democrat, we have reached out to mayors all across the country, to housing groups, to advocates, to people themselves and said, what kinds of changes could we make at the federal level to increase housing supply.
31:57
And that's what we've done.

I'm curious how much support you have on Capitol Hill for some of these policies, especially because AI has been such a huge driver of growth recently in this country.

What are your thoughts as you're watching this?
2:37
Look, I want Americans to have opportunities to invest in companies that help our economy grow.
2:45
But the confidence of investors is a big reason why our markets are the envy of the world.
2:52
And this particular IPO has enough red flags on it that it should stop anyone in just thinking about it.
3:04
So look at it this way.
3:05
First of all, the valuations.
3:07
Elon Musk valued his company with numbers that analysts call nonsensical and out of this world.
4:39
Tell me a little bit more about what exactly has you worried?
0:57
What are your thoughts as you're watching this?
0:59
Look, I want Americans to have opportunities to invest in companies that help our economy grow, but the confidence of investors is a big reason why our markets are the envy of the world, and this particular IPO has enough red flags [laughs] on it that it should stop anyone in just thinking about it.
1:25
So look at it this way.
1:27
First of all, the valuations.
1:29
Elon Musk valued his company with numbers that analysts call nonsensical and out of this world, in part he based it on the merger of SpaceX and xAI, which means, I guess, Elon Musk got in a room with Elon Musk and negotiated on how much the merger should be worth.
1:51
Then secondly, SpaceX pushed the major index providers to change their rules to force SpaceX into index funds at record speed, which will artificially boost the stock price in the s- short run.
2:11
And then they've set it up so that insiders will have an opportunity to sell their shares into the market, and when they do, they will have this captive audience of the index funds.
5:56
How concerned are you about those companies, these other SpaceX type companies also hitting the market?
5:47
And is there a likelihood that the president is correct, that he can in fact craft a better deal in the next 60 days than the JCPOA?
5:55
You know, the president's made a lot of promises.
5:58
How many times has he told us this war is over? And how many times have we come back again to see it all fall apart? No, we have not seen the details.
6:07
And of course, the devil is in the details.
6:09
But here's the part we know for sure.
6:11
We know that just before Donald Trump started bombing in Iran, that the Strait of Hormuz was open and nobody was collecting any fees or tolls to be able to travel it.
6:23
We know that Iran's $300 billion that was located all around the world was locked up tight and Iran couldn't use it.

15:36
I wonder if, since it is obviously now part of the market, if you plan to follow up as ranking member, will there be an investigation into any of the exemptions that were made, specifically the seasoning exemption at the NASDAQ? What's next for you in this saga?
32:50
Where, where do you sort of sit on this issue right now? Or is this an issue you think we need to be thinking about much just farther down the line?
32:56
Oh, listen, we need to be thinking right now.
32:58
In fact, we should've been thinking about this yesterday and taking action.
33:03
Look, we don't know what's gonna happen with AI, but we do know that the people who are most deeply engaged are talking about half the workforce losing their jobs.
33:12
Uh, we're talking about enormous disruption in ways that we can't anticipate.
33:18
Now is the moment [clears throat] to get ahead of that, to get started on our response.
33:23
And part of it, I mean, think about it.

22:35
We'd like people to understand reality, but here's the thing.
22:38
What Democrats will do now and are doing already is they are both going after Donald Trump, remember the man who said, what would he do? He would lower costs on day one.
22:50
And where are we on cost? Cost of groceries is up, cost of gasoline is up, cost of healthcare is up, cost of utilities is up, cost of housing is up.
