Eli Savit

Prosecuting Attorney of Washtenaw County

Oct 28, 2026

1:39
Is that something that you would do or take seriously, and do you agree with that?
1:46
I do agree with that.
1:47
And look, my perspective on this is that no matter who the president of the United States is, anytime that president is violating the law and harming Michiganders, we've got to have our attorney general in court on behalf of the people challenging those actions.
2:09
And this is why this race is so important.
2:12
Frequently, the attorney general really is the one actor in the state of Michigan that is empowered to go into court and to challenge federal actions when they violate the law on behalf of the people of the state of Michigan.
2:26
That's a responsibility I take really seriously.
2:30
And look, this shouldn't be political, actually.
3:16
Will you continue that suit, and were you consulted on that move?
0:20
of course so in your race what do you see as the main issues and why you would be the best candidate
0:28
Well, look, we know right now that Michiganders are struggling.
0:33
We're struggling with sky-high costs.
0:36
Families are struggling to get by.
0:38
We're struggling with sky-high utility rates.
0:42
And what I bring to the table is a track record of standing up to anybody who is trying to harm Michiganders, no matter who that might be.
0:56
I've been clear here that, look, this is the attorney general.
4:45
And on the sex work, how do you distinguish genuine consent from coercion or trafficking? And how do you make sure that exploitation isn't missed?
6:26
What are the big issues you want to focus on if you're elected attorney general?
6:30
Well, look, during the first two years in office, I think a lot of my time is going to be spent seeking to protect Michigan against the legal excesses of this administration.
6:42
And I know that because I know what Dana Nessel has been spending a lot of her time on the past couple of years.
6:49
Maybe I'm a little bit outdated on this, but 71 lawsuits, I believe, have been filed against the Trump administration.
6:54
She's won already, and many are still pending, I think over 40 of them.
6:59
And that's real money that has been placed back in Michigan communities as a result of that litigation.
7:07
Just in terms of the funding... litigation that Michigan has been involved in, in which the federal government tried to cut funds for things like our hospitals, cancer research, crime victim services, our VAs, our schools, our libraries.

7 MINS LATER

14:39
Since artificial intelligence is probably here to stay, What do you think it should be used for? We talked about its misuse, but what is it good for and why should we be rooting for it to be in a certain lane and not others?
0:27
Tell my listeners about yourself, a little of your history, the things that you feel are important.
0:32
Well, sure.
0:33
You know, I'm currently the elected Washtenaw County prosecutor.
0:37
I've been elected in 2020, reelected 2024.
0:42
And look, what we do in Washtenaw County, as I've tried to do throughout my career, is apply the law fairly and equally and ensure that nobody is above it, whether that's a criminal on the street, whether it's your boss who's stealing from your paycheck, whether it's a Company that's ripping you off, we go after them in Washtenaw County.
1:00
We build out the only unit in the state to focus on consumer and worker protection, take on scams targeting our seniors, you know, and people being shorted by their bosses.
1:11
But before that, you know, I was at the city of Detroit.
3:28
know,
23:38
Furthermore, QT talking ABT voting rights without stating what rights are being stripped.
23:47
OK, well, sort of a contradictory comment there, because you cannot talk about voting rights without talking about what's going on in Washington, D.C. I'll mention several challenges to our voting rights that I see right now.
24:02
First and foremost, we've seen here in Michigan the Trump administration.
24:08
Sorry, you don't want me to talk about the Trump administration, but you got to if you're talking about voting rights.
24:11
attempt to demand all of our private voter information right here in Wayne County without legal basis for doing so.
24:20
Our current Attorney General Dana Nessel as well as our current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson have quite rightly stood up for residents of Wayne County said, we're not going to give this to the government without the federal government, without any particular legal hook for that request.
24:37
And they won not just in the federal district court, but the federal court of appeals as well.

15 MINS LATER

39:41
When we talk about consumer protection, are there any issues nationally that you see playing out right here that you would kind of gnawing at and you'd
19:25
Can you talk a little bit about your political philosophy and why you're running for this extraordinarily
19:31
important seat? Well, absolutely.
19:33
So, look, I'm running for Attorney General because fundamentally, I believe that no matter who it is that is screwing you over, whether it's your boss stealing from your paycheck, whether it's a corporation price gouging us, whether it is an environmental polluter or whether it's the president of the United States himself, the AG should be standing up in court every time the law is broken and the people of the state of Michigan are harmed.
19:57
You know, this is work I've done throughout my career.
19:59
I've been a practicing environmental lawyer and have sued corporate polluters.
20:01
I went up against the pharmaceutical industry and litigated opioids, opioid cases for the city of Detroit.
20:10
I've been a civil rights and voting rights lawyer.
21:57
