You think those will end up being agent free, whereas the big platforms, Reddit, Twitter, meta will become full of agents, simulated humans and whatnot.
Eli PariserGUEST
I think there will be a high social cost to displacing yourself with an agent in those circumstances.
Eli PariserGUEST
I think there will be other ways that people use agents in like these smaller contexts, like having an agent that helps facilitate a conversation or bring in valuable, you know, I'm in a local neighborhood chat.
Eli PariserGUEST
And, you know, the number of times people ask the same question over again, you'd have an agent on the side going like, hey, here's the thread where we already talked about this, you know, that's a much more controlled setting, and there's more trust.
Eli PariserGUEST
And so what we're looking at is a situation where real humans go to smaller, more trust oriented spaces, And then, you know, the kind of open, social, large algorithmic spaces get pretty AI-ified pretty quickly.
Eli PariserGUEST
You know, what's interesting about the messaging context is that messaging is already kind of almost a commodity.
Eli PariserGUEST
Like it's not, I don't know about you, but I guess I find it almost immaterial if I'm chatting with people on iMessage or WhatsApp or And so I think the interesting opportunity here as we move into this world where it's also possible to kind of vibe code any platform that you want.

So give me a couple of things that could happen that would make this AI-driven future of communication better and a couple of things that might happen that could make it worse.

So the question is, like, when, when is AI gonna be better able to do some of the jobs that social media does than the best available, easily findable social experience? And I think at the far end of that spectrum, where I think there's gonna be a lot of displacement, is think, like, a lot of YouTube content is, I was just trying to replace the wheel on my dishwasher, and the best way to learn that was to get a little video that was some dude just, you know, showing people how to replace every part in a dishwasher to make a few bucks.
Eli PariserGUEST
Like, I don't know that that's a viable-- Like, putting the manual in my Claude and having Claude tell me was, like, actually way better.
Eli PariserGUEST
And, um, there's a bunch of things like that where really what I'm seeking is a piece of info-- specific information or to complete a specific task where I just think-- A-and I'm not, like, cheerleading this, by the way, but, like, I just think that there's gonna be a lot of competitive pressure from AI tools that know more about my personal context, know how I like to learn, and are able to, like, bring that information into my context in a useful way.
Eli PariserGUEST
On the other extreme, you know, so I do think there are these pieces of the big kind of content library and content experience apps that are gonna be under threat.
Eli PariserGUEST
On the other extreme, we talk about when I text my group chat of friends, like, I do not want my friends' agents replying to my texts.

A-and I'm curious, and can you, can you lay out for us the, the positive media future here?
