Uh, and finally, what's shaped your perspective on payments and infrastructure?
3:27
I used to work in the financial industry.
3:29
I spent 23 years in, uh, in banking and, um, I started as an IT engineer, so I was always in love with technology.
3:38
And when I found out about blockchain, I, I was really amazed by how simple and elegant that solution was to address so many core issues, uh, in payments.
3:51
Um, and, uh, when we started our payment business in Metacom, we saw this, uh, happening firsthand for our clients, uh, who were, uh, which, uh, whose funds were delayed by a few days, two, three days.
4:06
Uh, and back then we didn't have the ability, we didn't have the balance sheet to prefund all those accounts to allow instant settlements.
4:15
Um, so we figured, ah, this is a real- really useful and relevant technology to be able to move value instantly, uh, without the need for prefunding.

Mm-hmm
4:29
Is there something that's kind of fundamentally broken, do you think, that the industry narrative is getting wrong, perhaps?
4:39
Fundamentally broken, I don't know.
4:41
But from the top of my head, there are three things that I think are not working so well.
4:48
The first thing is that we're still using a technology called Swift that was built in the 70s.
4:55
And back then, it was a very elegant solution for the needs from the 70s, 50 years ago.
5:02
But Swift is a messaging system.
5:05
Ultimately, it just tells banks, to process transactions.

But how are you thinking about AI, I guess, at Metacom? We've not discussed that yet.
