Goodness
2:08
... and so we have to make that up.
2:10
And each year we're at the mercy of the legislature to make sure we have funding that allows us to continue to provide service.
2:17
Now, there's an understanding there's a growing need for transportation, but that don't necessarily follow the track of we ought to put money there because what happens is this.
2:26
At the MTA in Flint, we may be willing to do many things.
2:29
That don't mean others will do them.
2:31
And so you have legislators say, "Well, in my backyard, they're not providing that service.
5:43
Wow, every day.
3:37
[laughs]
3:38
...
3:38
when we did it, when we did it.
3:39
But when we started growing the service, especially on the Your Ride side, uh, it wasn't long and the disabled community, one of our board members who's now deceased, but a great individual, was Mike Zelly, and he said, "You know, we need more of this." And so, uh, I recall when we went to the board and said we'd ask for an increase to kind of pump that up a little so that we could address the growing needs and, um, the popularity of that service.
4:05
And so when the board was, uh, considering it, I recall they even increased the amount we were gonna ask for because they realized how important it was.
4:13
So, you know, fast-forward from then, since 1996, this community continues to support millages that generally run out after five years.
4:23
And, uh, since our original millage, uh, effort, we did have a couple of increases, so we ended up where we had three millages, our original one and two small ones.
6:01
[whispering]
