Well, What all has changed? Why do we see such dramatic swings now today compared to how we used to?

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
I think it has a whole lot to do with the amount of information and the availability of that information.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And certainly funds that get into the market and bring a lot of liquidity to the market, their engagement has gotten more involved.

Uh, can you share a little bit of comments, I guess, as it applies to a, uh, producer side?

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
Well, o- o- one thing I'll preface this with is there is a lot of information, um, you know, publications that want to help the farmer understand basis.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And one of the things I, I wanna just maybe give a word of caution that certainly basis is a, is a component to the cash price.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And, and I'll maybe explain that even a little further f- for some, but, um, that basis is a fairly small percentage of the overall, um, cash price that is available to the farmer.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And I, I'm not saying it's insignificant, but there seems to be an overemphasis of that over ... capturing what, what I think is probably the, the, should be the focal point of when you're farm marketing, when you're wanting to lock in good prices for your grain is just really...

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And, and this sounds over simplistic and, and, uh, and I know some might roll their eyes, but you, you've really gotta put pencil to paper, know your cost of production, and, and have some targets, so an idea of what you want to get as a return for that grain.

Any thoughts, would that create some opportunities for some of the Great Lakes shipping opportunities out of, uh, out of the United States?

So I'm curious as you look at that, you know, what are your thoughts on that or observations with some of those trends?

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
There are times when your larger agriculture companies will even buy up assets and consolidate.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
And, you know, a lot of that has to do with, as my understanding, we definitely have customers that are co-ops and some sizable ones in our area.

Dwayne WilsonGUEST
But there's also becoming a lack of experience and, you know, personnel resources available for those that have, managed, you know, multi-site operations.

But does that change much of the complexity, or is a lot of that conversation happening in advance with the grain buyers and merchandisers that it's not really a surprise as those flows come through?
