Mm-hmm
2:28
...
2:28
when I started running, and made all of the rookie mistakes, and, you know, wound up actually getting a running-related injury, which was not a common one.
2:37
And, um, you know, I was just told to stop running, and I knew there were some better answers out there, and that really led me down to the kind of the career, uh, change and path- pathway that I began in, in really serving the running community.
2:52
So, yeah, we can always, uh, learn more, and that's where my passion is nowadays, in just educating the running community that, you know, even as adults, we can still challenge ourselves, like do hard things.
3:04
Um, but we don't need to get injured when we do it, and there is a way that we can train in a smart way, and we can build up the strength in our bodies as we age, um, where we can continue doing these, you know, great pursuits, uh, that we have, whether you have a time goal or you, you know, have a distance goal, or you just wanna do it for longevity and be able to, like, get those, what I like to call the mind-clearing miles out, and just be able to get-

17:42
Yeah
17:42
... unique demands versus cycling versus swimming, right? Your foot's always on the ground.
16:17
Mm-hmm.
16:17
Someone who's not in their 40s or 50s who are struggling with some of these types of injuries.
16:22
So that kinda led me down to the rabbit hole in doing what I do today and serving the running community in these kinda fairly common running-related injuries.
16:31
But I guess the biggest thing I, I think is important for your listeners to know is that everything we're gonna be talking about today, it's not like doom and gloom.
16:40
All of these things we're gonna talk about, these top three injuries, can be overcome with the proper strategies.
16:46
And even, you know, what's better about this, literally 99% of you won't have to stop running to actually get over these injuries.
16:56
So that's, like, huge, right? Especially if you're, like, a marathoner and you love running, um, that's really good news.

25:08
Yeah
15:46
Can you run through that, or, or are you doing additional damage? Is that a big no-no?
15:50
Yeah, great question, and it really comes down to kind of what is the irritability of the tissue in terms of, like, to run or not to run, right? So if someone is getting this sharp pain and it's intermittent, it only lasts for a couple seconds, like, that can be enough to, like, freak people out on a run.
16:09
They feel, like, this ice pick in the side of their knee, and it-- they say it's like, you know, the pain scale is one way to measure this if we're doing zero to 10, and if they say it's, like, an eight, then it's like, yeah, that's pretty darn severe pain.
16:20
But if they tell me during their run they felt it, it only lasted, like, five seconds, and then it went away, then, you know, that's kind of proceed, proceed forward.
16:30
You know, green means go.
16:32
We're gonna continue, you know, our training, our running.
16:34
We're gonna be mindful of this pain that you experienced.

Is that something that you also see as a risk factor for ITBS?
