But what value does 3D printing and robotics provide for students? Like, why should we waste our time and money teaching this in school?
8:01
That's a really great question.
8:03
And I mean, honestly, the best way to answer that is to look back.
8:07
If you think about robotics as a field and how it's evolved for maybe over 30 years since the development of the first few automation in factories, it has always been someone extremely talented, designed something, and they go through iteration after iteration in their head or on a piece of paper before then spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars manufacturing it, whether that be making it out of plastic or sculpting it or casting it in metal.
8:36
That was always the process.
8:37
It was long and arduous.
8:38
But now with 3D printing and hobbyist robotics and the access to the components that we have today, I mean, I could go on Amazon and buy a motor for a robot, and it'll show up tomorrow.

What is the approach that schools should take when considering what kinds of printers to buy and, you know, stuff like that?

And I will pass to Dorian to talk more about that.
6:47
Thank you.
6:48
So my name's Dorian Todd.
6:50
I work with CADClass.
6:51
I'm the robotics specialist.
6:53
And what we do is we bridge the gap between 3D printers in classrooms and curriculum.
6:59
What we found is exactly what he described.
