What sparked the shift into strategic foresight? And let's talk about how you got there today.
1:28
Yeah, it's an interesting story.
1:31
You know, I started off in healthcare and I loved working with people.
1:35
I worked in emergency context, so trauma, critical care, but also outpatient diagnostics, helping people with... you know, just managing their health for chronic disease and, and SARS crisis was the first experience I had in emergencies.
1:51
And it was, it was eyeopening, you know, and at the time I was studying public policy.
1:56
I want to do more big systems level health type of innovative thinking.
2:02
And so it was a real learning experience for me.

12 MINS LATER

14:16
Yeah.
38:40
So I was just wondering, you know, could you share some of the experiences you've had using these tools and techniques in foresight? And how have you seen that shift in in the way we approach a problem, whether it's a wicked problem or a complex situation? How have they borne fruit? And what kind of outcomes have you seen?
39:00
Yeah, that's a good question.
39:03
So I've had a lot of different experiences in applying foresight, especially the last 10 years in work that I do, mostly because I've had the opportunity to work with defense and security organizations, but also other government organizations and learn from within Canada, but also the U.S. and globally.
39:28
So it's been a real... there's been an evolution in my learning and application of foresight.
39:35
Most of what I'm seeing from my work, especially working with government organizations at the federal or global level, they're looking at foresight and integrating it into two places.
39:49
So into their strategic planning.
39:52
So basically, this additional anticipatory lens is added to their traditional planning, traditional strategy structures to help them understand new signals of change in the broader environment and what may be happening over the horizon, right? So these are new emerging issues, new weak signals, potential for disruption, and they are proactively identifying these patterns and generating different types of exercises.
38:39
