I lived in Canada, so I would come down here and I would do movies and I would do the teen magazines and I would fly back there.
1:21
And it didn't, because there was no internet, no way of really telling what was going on down here, I didn't know the height of it.
1:28
I did this movie called Wild America and I went away to London with JTT.
1:33
And it was when our... car was being chased and we had photographers and whatnot that I knew the kind of height of it all.
1:41
How old were you then? I was 16.
5:09
How did you and your wife meet?
5:11
We met at a mutual friend's, and then we saw each other a few times after that, and then we've just been inseparable ever since.
7:18
But what do you think it is about this show that's tapping into what people like your daughter are really craving in young adult entertainment?
7:27
It's, um, it's well-written.
7:29
The, the, what blew me away with this show is the performances by this cast.
7:32
And I didn't get to work with the, with the young ladies very much on this season.
7:36
And then I saw the show and I think they, they're just so strong.
7:39
They're so talented.
7:41
Um, And they're really cool.

I can't
4:32
It brings me sort of this young energy that I really appreciated being able to work with them in this past year, so.
4:40
And for me, seeing my daughter have the bug or whatever, it reminded me, when I started in acting, it's something that I wanted to do.
4:48
And there was some kids that I'd worked with that didn't want to ever be there.
4:51
And I think it's very important that, you know, do it if it's fun.
4:56
If you're having a good time with it, then do it.
5:00
You know, some kids are in it for all the wrong reasons.
5:02
I don't know, but the kids we're working with are in it because they're not really kids.
9:01
This is their first time and seeing sort of their ride that they're about to take, which is so fun, which I'm I'm really excited for them like big time.
5:02
It brings me sort of this young energy that I really appreciated being able to work with them in this past year, so.
5:10
And for me, seeing my daughter have the bug or whatever, it reminded me, when I started in acting, it's something that I wanted to do.

If you're having a good time with it, then do it.
5:30
You know, some kids are in it for all the wrong reasons.
5:33
I don't know, but the kids are working with it because they're not really kids.
9:41
Yeah, that
62:31
How did you meet Nicole?
62:33
You know what? It goes back a while.
62:34
Where do you know her from? I was in Canada in 2008 or 2007 or 2009, and they played two days nonstop of Jersey Shores, of back-to-back-to-back Jersey Shores.
62:48
And I don't know what it was, but I watched.
62:50
I think I was sick or something like that, but I ended up watching the marathon of Jersey Shores.
62:54
You were sick after.
62:55
And I fell in love with the show, and I fell in love with the cast.
64:32
And this is that show I feel.
14:11
It's really fun.
14:12
Yeah, I got pitched the show.
14:14
I was in the car.
14:14
I have to tell this story.
14:15
I was in the car with my daughter, who's 10, and I was pitched the show, and it's a show about young witches in a school, and I wasn't so into it, but when I turned and looked at my daughter, her little eyes were coming out of her head, and you could see the excitement in her face, and I knew right then I had to do this for her.
14:31
She's our number one fan.
14:33
We had a great time.
15:08
And I found my
55:03
And you were in your car, and your daughter heard about it?
55:09
When I was pitched the show, I wasn't...
55:13
I didn't really know about it, but my daughter was sitting and listening to the pitch and it's a school about little witches and warlocks and her eyes just got big and excited and I knew right away that this is something that I had to do.
55:25
Yeah, that's her.
55:27
She is so proud of dad for the first time in my whole career.
55:31
Like she's finally watching something.
55:34
I
57:45
But your daughter, who got so excited when she heard you get pitched for this job, is she following in your footsteps, you think? You
1:47
The timing that they had, the directors had you guys on, just the fact that you were able to allow actors us the viewers to feel like that we were in your scenes you gave us time to breathe what was that like as an actor
2:02
um the movie was shot very quickly we had to put a lot of trust in this director that he that he had spent five years with this script and he had he had researched it and and we got the script about a week before we started shooting so we had to put a lot of trust that he knew what he was talking about that he had done in on point and factual and, and whatnot.
2:26
Uh, and we, then we just kind of rolled and it was quick and it was fast and it was dark.
2:30
And, um, and it was some of those scenes were, were, were a lot of fun as an actor to, to shoot.
2:37
Uh, my favorite, my, a lot of my favorite scenes in the, in the movie are just me and Maggie sitting there talking, um, just grounded.
2:44
And, um, it's, it's really, it's really nice as an actor to do stuff like that.

16 MINS LATER

18:58
Because when you start doing things like this, and I can see how you are as an actor, there's no way that it's not going onto a sheet of paper from the tip of your pen.
19:07
I write a little bit.
1:47

19:07
I write a little bit.
28:25
Now, I wanted to ask you, what was it about the girl in the river that inspired you to be in this film?
28:32
The script came to me at a time that I needed to do this kind of film.
28:37
I had been doing Chucky for a few years, which I had an absolute ball doing, by the way.
28:45
But it's nevertheless a show that's very big and comedic and over the top and dreamlike.
28:55
And I needed something that was very grounded and still.
29:00
And this particular script, it came to me and it was just a no-brainer.
29:07
I liked the genre.

5 MINS LATER

34:23
No, let me just speak on that
6:29
Well, Devin, when you're doing a role that's kind of heavier like this, like how do you as an actor have that not like affect you or, or how do you kind of, deal with that, doing a
6:41
heavier role? Well, first of all, I needed to do this role.
6:44
I'd come off of Chucky, which is one of, like, I had so much fun on Chucky, but it's a little bit larger than life.
6:51
It's a little bit, it's like a dreamlike world where everything's heightened and you got Tilly and so I, I wanted to do something that was really contained and really grounded and really kind of dramatic.
7:03
And, um, a lot of stuff where I could just be still and let the wheels turn and listen to my, to, to my co-stars and, um, let the writing and the story do the, the, the heavy lifting.
7:15
Um, and it was, um, it was fulfilling.
7:19
It was really kind of one of those fulfilling roles where I felt like I was almost like the feeling I used to have when I used to go on stage or it's just like, okay, we're doing this thing.
11:24
I mean, that dancing scene at Casper, iconic.
