Can you ask Dermot, please, about the possible for eco-heating during an electricity outage? Do heat pumps depend on electricity? What length of time would we be OK for heat without electricity?
12:56
Well, OK, if you've got a heat pump in and your house is well insulated, you're not going to lose the heat.
13:03
Do you remember the old 1970s houses? You turned off the heat and 20 minutes later the house was freezing, it was baltic again.
13:09
If your house is insulated and the electricity goes, yes, your heat pump has run through electricity, but so are a lot of boilers.
13:16
It's pumped by electricity and people don't realise that.
13:20
That's right, take care of the kerosene tank.
13:21
No, you need something to spark it up and all and keep it going.

6 MINS LATER

18:58
My question is, what window frame colour would Dermot recommend? Taking face and soffit boards into account, has black charcoal anthracite had its day? Asked
2:36
And like, how do you get inspired as a kid to become an architect? Where does it all begin?
2:41
What was my first detour? Actually, I always kind of go back to this, but I think it had a massive effect on me.
2:49
When I was a kid, I was uprooted from suburban Dublin, from Malahide, and we moved to Cairo.
2:55
My dad was working out there.
3:00
What it did was, I kind of went from being a kid in a community to being a complete outsider because I didn't speak the language.
3:09
So I was observing all the time.
3:11
So every train journey I went on, I couldn't understand anybody.
6:40
You've never done this before,
7:27
You're passionate about it, isn't it?
7:28
Well, I just, I suppose, look, a lot of things are very subjective.
7:33
They're very you, what you need in your house.
7:35
And I suppose what people don't talk about, it's the last conversation that doesn't happen because you can't feel it on Instagram, right, is heat and how warm a house is and how cosy a house is.
7:46
And we were, and I'm going back to this, I probably shouldn't give you, but like, The house was so cold that I was in on Tuesday that she had to go to bed at seven o'clock because she couldn't sit downstairs.
7:57
It was that cold.
7:59
And it's like that's all up and down the country.
9:09
I'm wondering what's the difference between double and triple glazing apart from the prices?
