I don't remember if this was during the pandemic or when, but so again, being on social media and for various reasons, I just happened to stumble upon a post from a colleague of mine, right? That is practicing teacher still.

We're all practicing teachers, but practicing K-12 teacher.
0:18
And it was a district development day, right? So kids are off so the teachers can have an in-service type of day.

Um, and so as I was getting into my graduate studies and, you know, essentially being asked, what do you want to study? What do you want to look at? I had lots of different interests, but I think the one that really started to surface were kind of remnant of this post that I saw, you know, during the pandemic a couple of years ago where it might even not been during the pandemic.

It might even been slightly post pandemic because obviously we couldn't gather during the pandemic, but there was this concept that this teacher was like, almost like in the moment i'm in this professional learning situation in my site a bunch of us are sitting here in the library being talked to right so it's this kind of one-shot direct workshop that hey we're we're going to teach you something that maybe somebody administrative district-wide said you need this and it's just not going well it's just not a quality professional learning opportunity um for various reasons and So I started examining that.

I started questioning that and starting wondering why is that happening? But more so, I was looking at it from lots of different angles.

0:41
It's a thing I want to learn.
0:42
And it's from 4.30 to 7.30 on a weeknight.
0:45
And I'm like, okay, so I don't...
0:47
Even if I don't have class, that means I don't get to work out.
0:55
Dinner's going to be something questionable.

What I find interesting in the context of California is, is you have this minimum day and again that's a that's a wizard of oz behind the curtain space for me so i'm curious from your perspective what happens on those days you know kids leave and you have some extra time and space allegedly to do these things but what is that what's that time on a weekly basis being taken up with
