Dan SobelGUEST
Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest thing for me, and I didn't realize it the first couple of times when I got buck fever or deer fever and realized and just shaking and trying to figure out how to control that until I started probably six, seven years ago, trying to figure out how to get ready to go in an elk hunt in Colorado when we don't have that type of elevation around here we don't have that type of terrain and it was something obscure that I found it was run back and forth or do push-ups or sit-ups and get that heart rate up and simulate you know getting into a panic type situation and then being able to figure out how to calm yourself down to shoot that was probably the hardest thing for me was getting that deep breath and calm before you shoot other than just standing there and hyperventilating and punching the trigger and letting it fly because i've done that quite a few times and that's something you don't know or don't realize or nobody really tells you until you're in that situation and you're like what what can i do how can i can i make this a little bit better

Derek McMasterGUEST
yeah for me so i'm kind of big into running like i honestly hate running i just love the way i feel afterwards but like I've been doing this running thing.

Derek McMasterGUEST
My wife challenged me to get some miles in and I took it way overboard once again.

Derek McMasterGUEST
But like last year, even like with all the deer that I was able to get, like my heart beats, I get a little shaky.

Derek McMasterGUEST
But the biggest trick that I have is taking like a couple deep breaths in and out real quick while that's happening.

Derek McMasterGUEST
Just like when we do these competitions, you know, like before you make that shot, make sure your breathing's okay.

Derek McMasterGUEST
Because if you're just winded and gassed or too shaky from running, it's definitely a big thing and you can hit that trigger way too soon.

Is your preparation for that different? I know your shot placement is the same, but is your mindset going into that different?

And I know you, you hit on it a little bit, but, uh, you know, take us as deep and dark as you wanna go, and let's get into it.

Derek McMasterGUEST
Yeah, so, so yeah, uh, baseball, that, that literally was my number one thing.

Derek McMasterGUEST
Like, get out there and, and get this high school coaching." And, um, through that time, uh, like I said, I hunted with my uncle from 12 to 16.
