Angie McBrideHOST
So in what way was he uncontrollable? Not in a negative way or what do you mean by that?

Denis O'KaneGUEST
Well, I sort of came into 3AW from the old 3XY where everything was formatted and I suppose a bit of a music background and I'd say to Darren Hinch, no, you've got to do this, you've got to do this so many times.

Denis O'KaneGUEST
I also was backed by a very good general manager at 3AW by the name of Brian White.

Angie McBrideHOST
Why do you think people warmed to him so much? Like you said, was it his passion? Was it he was honest so they knew what they were getting with Darren? Is that why he was so popular or was there something more?

A lot of fun, serious guy to a lot of people, but also when you're out with him, he was so much fun.

Dennis O'KaneGUEST
I first met Darren at 3XY when Many years ago, back in the late 70s, Darren came down to 3XY to do the mornings.

Dennis O'KaneGUEST
It didn't last long because he was a bit of a renegade and 3XY was a rocky jockey sort of station, music station.

Dennis O'KaneGUEST
But then he came to 3AW and under Brian White, the then general manager, He started here in the late 70s and stayed right through until, well, about 1987.

Eddie SummerfieldCORRESPONDENT
He shook things up in Canberra, didn't he, when he went there, was that about 20 years ago? Yeah.
