and graduated from college and took a job at the University of Hawaii in Hilo and bought my first house, our first house up in the volcano area.

And so I got big time and we were in the rainforest, literally right outside the park.

And I could be lying in bed and there'd be an apapani feeding right outside our window.

I'd see them gathering nesting materials, feeding on the fuchsia or the ohia, and there were omau singing in the evenings.
