How do you deal with, let's just say the problem of evil in the world? What is the best way that you have found to engage with, say, someone who's, let's just say, being completely unreasonable, bullying, doing something harmful? What is a process that one can go through to try to, so to speak, love thy enemy in that situation? Okay.
35:01
So first of all, unlike other traditions, I don't think that there's support for any existential evil.
35:11
in Taoism.
35:12
Evil is not a matter of this world.
35:15
And why is it not a matter of this world? As I said earlier, it's because this world sustains us unconditionally.
35:21
Right? There's nothing in the world that says, I'll only give you air if you do this.
35:29
And that's the problem, you see, because in Taoism, your behavior is your choice.

I'd love to know.

And can you explain some of the traditions with this then?
4:44
Sure.
4:45
So the first idea, it's a little bit strange for some people, is that there is this movement in the universe called Tao.
4:56
And if you look at the Chinese ideogram for Tao, it's a picture of a person walking on a path.
5:04
Well, that has two implications at least, right? One is that there's a path each person should follow.
5:13
Well, that makes sense, right? And then the other part is, is there a path that the entire universe by extension follows? And all we need to do is to harmonize the two.
5:27
Can we make our personal path work with the universal path? So if everything is moving, though, that means everything is changing all the time.
