absolute pleasure to invite her to give the 2026 John Heinz lecture entitled Purpose and Passion.

Thank you so much, Chris, for the moving review of the contributions of Dr. Heinz and thanks to Emma and Rob and all the organizers for this incredible conference critical care reviews is clearly incomparable as a conference not just in our field but probably much more broadly and having the opportunity to listen to the genesis of the research questions and the details of the design the results and their implications for practice and policy is uh is a rare treat and I'm very honored to be part of this and incredibly honored to think about Dr. Heinz.

I read a bit about him, I've had a chance to speak to some colleagues here in Ireland about him and an anesthesiologist and intensivist, his clear vision for the best pre-hospital care and the way he helped to change health services is very impressive.
4:54
And listening to his story has been inspiring for me to think about a few remarks to share with you of a professional and personal nature at the end of this great conference.
5:09
And I'm suspecting that the idea of talking about passion at a scientific meeting might be very unusual.
5:18
People might wonder what role does that play when we're talking about investigations? But for me, passion has been a fuel that has been the engine of my clinical research.
5:33
And I think if we're honest with each other, those of us who really do care about what we do as clinical scientists, you may agree that passion helps us to think a little bit more clearly about the problems at hand.
