Dean WinterGUEST
This is the same Liberal government that in 2024 put new racing legislation in place through the Parliament, supported by myself and Labor, that actually legislated that in Tasmania, the government must regulate racing because it's important that we have an industry with integrity.

Dean WinterGUEST
And so without changing his own legislation, he cannot simply shut down or defund greyhound racing.
Caleb BondHOST
What's the feeling like in the industry at the moment? Is there a level of confidence that this will all eventually go away because they can't get it through Parliament, or is that cloud still sort of hanging over their heads?

You know, I'm here to say the Liberals have got a lot right politically, but I'll tell you what, watching them try and run that Greyhound argument in early December last year was, I mean, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Dean WinterGUEST
The attempt to ram it through quickly just demonstrated they really didn't know how to get anything through the Legislative Council.

Dean WinterGUEST
I really just watched and shook my head and watched as the legislation unfolded failed to get through at that point in time, but really that it was given a death sentence at that point.

Dean WinterGUEST
And now we're at the point where the greyhound raising legislation has no future pathway because the Premier has said that he won't bring it back on until he knows he has the numbers.

in hobart go into voluntary liquidation or or administration sorry hopefully it won't be a liquidation but who knows these aren't very good signs so this is the probably the hard and heavy work of government over the next 12 months is to is to turn this around at the same time so much debt has built up that the government doesn't have the leverage that it once did.
