Why do the U.S. midterms truly matter for Europe?
0:56
Yeah, I think we're not so much looking at it more from the perspective of the dramatic changes in policy.
1:03
I think when all is said and done, the things that matter to Europe areas such as trade, foreign policy and perhaps regulatory policy still reside largely with the with the president.
1:14
So that's really how they evolve.
1:17
post the midterms that is our focus.
1:19
Now, when I think about the transmission channels into the European economy, I think there's three key areas we've got to focus on.
1:27
The first is clearly trade.
4:06
How should investors navigate all of this?
29:10
So do you think social media h- can be a, a net negative for some people when they just focus on the physique and they haven't seen the, the decade plus of work that's went into it?
29:21
100%.
29:23
It, it's a complete lack of perspective, if you will.
29:25
Like, they're just, they're just not stepping outside, assessing the situation objectively.
29:30
Like, do you really think that that person didn't put in a considerable amount of work if they look really good? There is the occasional person who their genetic prowess is just so fucking elite that, like, maybe they got there in, in, in a couple years.
29:45
Um, inherently they were just in such a good spot and they just kinda grow like a weed.
29:48
They stay reasonably lean.

27 MINS LATER

56:40
You just don't choose to use them as much now.
7:05
So what are the main things that people will be watching out for as his agenda takes shape? Perhaps also key appointments and the overall direction he might set?
7:14
So in terms of what we currently know about Andy Burner's policy proposals, you've correctly said it's not much.
7:23
He's made a couple of speeches of late.
7:27
What we can gather is that this, assuming he does become the prime minister in mid-July, this is a prime minister who will favour the greater intervention of the state.
7:41
He's a prime minister who's strongly in favour of devolution.
7:45
And for our US listeners, you know, just to be clear what that is, is that the UK has historically been dominated or governed from London from the centre.
7:56
And he's very keen to promote a devolution agenda that sees decision-making powers devolved to other parts of the country.
11:13
With all this political change, could we see any implications for the bank's approach to interest rate or monetary policy?
5:12
Um, how would you evaluate the lasting effects of, uh, the Brexit vote over the past decade?
5:19
Yeah.
5:20
So for me, I look at the legacy on voting, uh, behavior and voting patterns as a result of Brexit, and you've kind of touched on this.
5:31
And, you know, it really did establish a fragmentation, uh, from the old two-party system that, uh, that used to dominate British politics.
5:41
Um, and a lot...
5:42
Another thing that's happened as well is a lot of the old kind of class-based voting structure, uh, that was very common in the UK, uh, for, for, for a number of years, um, has essentially changed.
5:56
So what you're seeing is that, you know, the traditional voting constituencies for the Conservative Party and the Labour Party have changed dramatically.
6:55
Now, and what do we actually know about Burnham's policies, uh, policy proposals so far? He's made some headlines by saying he won't raise taxes or wants more public ownership, so what are the main things that people be watching out for as his agenda takes shape, perhaps also key appointments and, and the overall direction he might set?
