Do we believe Ben Carroll when he says he will have a genuinely, uh, top-notch royal commission into corruption on the Big Build and he won't say whether, uh, Dan Andrews or Jacinta Allan will be required to attend?

David SouthwickGUEST
And you can't trust a teacher, you can't r- trust a, a, a student to mark their own homework, and that's what we're getting here from, uh, Ben Carroll.

David SouthwickGUEST
Uh, he was part of the corruption, and, and now it's just gonna be a cover-up to look after former premiers and former ministers and current ministers as well.

David SouthwickGUEST
Uh, the only way to get on top of that, and we've, we've, we've already announced the terms of reference, which he, uh, he's already, uh, thrown that out and said, "We're not gonna take that into account." We've said, you know, whether you're Daniel Andrews, Jacinta Allan, former ministers, all of them need to front up.

Steve PriceHOST
Um, I know that the new commissioner of police is trying to do the best job he can, but the crime crisis continues to roll out of control.

Since the government has a 10-seat majority, is there much confidence that it would be successful or is this just to bring more attention to Jacinta Allen's unpopularity?

David SouthwickGUEST
And I've got to say right from the outset, Victorians have had a gutful of Jacinda Allen.

David SouthwickGUEST
If you take the debt in that time, Victorians will rack up, just in the interest payments alone, over $4 billion to pay down that debt.

Caroline MarcusHOST
Why do you think it was that Deputy Premier Ben Carroll didn't mount a leadership challenge against the Premier earlier in the week? Because it was widely expected that he would until he, of course, came out and said that he would back her.

Do you have thoughts on that?

David SouthwickGUEST
So, um, so I, I think again with minimum financial requirements, I, I... we're taking a sledgehammer to a problem.

David SouthwickGUEST
And so one of the key issues of I'm saying to a, a builder that, you know, look at their assets and say, "Right, so you can have a million dollars' worth of projects." Now, you, you might, and, and you might split that to two projects.

David SouthwickGUEST
You've done one project, and you've f- you've potentially freed up your capital.

David SouthwickGUEST
You've gotta wait 12 months, the 12 months before you can then take on another project.

David SouthwickGUEST
So we want people to build more housing, but what they're doing is, again, another handbrake, another lever to be able to say, "Right, well, there might be some, um, builders that overcook it or some bigger builders." So the, the issue with Porter Davis was a real issue, but you can't then turn around and say every single builder is now gonna be penalized to a point where they can't build more homes because we're gonna limit how much they're actually going to be able to borrow or what they're gonna be able to do.

Look, can you try and explain this scheme to us? Does this not just make housing more unaffordable?

David SouthwickGUEST
This government thinks the only way to fix the housing crisis is to tax people into a new home.

David SouthwickGUEST
We know in Melbourne CBD, we've got close to 18,000 homes that are permitted and not being built because they just don't stack up.

What sort of a message is the justice system sending right now, not just to offenders who seem to go to court, get a slap on the wrist, and then the circle of violence continues, but also to victims of crime?

David SouthwickGUEST
The fact that the four alleged offenders, three of them were on supervision orders.

David SouthwickGUEST
What kind of supervision were they doing when they're able to drive a car at high speeds through the Bourke Street Mall at a time when it's school holidays, you've got families that are meant to be out enjoying themselves in what was... once upon a time Melbourne's most liveable city, and we have this absolute shambles.

David SouthwickGUEST
And again, the courts just allow these offenders to be back out recommending the same offences, but it's not the courts, it's the government.

David SouthwickGUEST
And what I think really frustrates Victorians the most If you have a Premier that comes out again and says, oh, this is disgraceful behaviour, the disgraceful behaviour is you've got a government that's been there for a decade and has allowed this behaviour to happen.

Danika DiGiorgioHOST
You know, how on earth has Melbourne become a city where you've got pensioners and young families being ambushed in the middle of the day so brazenly? What does it say about these offenders? They're not scared at all.

Day in, day out, we see these horrible attacks on people in their homes, on the streets.

David SouthwickGUEST
$13 million these bins have cost to expect these criminals to hand in a machete.

David SouthwickGUEST
I'd be very interested to see how many machetes they actually get handed in.

You've got Labor spending more than $380 million on its desperate attempts to establish a treaty, yet it can't even take care of basic emergency services resourcing.

Yeah, look, I mean, I've got to say, and I haven't had the opportunity to really do this on your program before, but most Australians have been fantastic in seeing this for what it is.

David SouthwickGUEST
They don't want the troubles of the Middle East coming to the likes of Melbourne.
