David Schreier, futurist and professor of practice at Imperial College London, explained to me the appeal of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as the global economy was collapsing.

David ShrierGUEST
So the basic premise of Bitcoin was they wanted to create an ability to have what's known as a trustless medium of exchange and store of value.

David ShrierGUEST
And by trustless, I mean that right now, if I want to send money to someone else who has a bank account somewhere else, they had to convince their bank to trust them and do background check on them and make sure that they're a real person, they're a safe person to do business with.

David ShrierGUEST
They may be cautious to take action, and there are reasons to be cautious, but sandboxes are a good thing.

David ShrierGUEST
That is one of the, I think, better interventions that a government can take in order to understand the effects of a technology.

David ShrierGUEST
And so, you know, that said, I mean, look, I'm going to be briefing some government officials later today who reached out to me.
