Wow
38:31
... you do an effective resistance training program.
38:34
So just to give an overview, I guess of, of what we recommend in terms of a program based on, I guess, the evidence that we have in front of us.
38:44
Uh, so resistance training about two to three sessions per week.
38:49
Progressing, you know, maybe starting at about 30 minutes per session, getting up to about 60 minutes per session.
38:55
Uh, about six to eight exercises per session, uh, a mix of lower body and upper body.
39:02
Uh, so things like, uh, you know, leg presses, squats, knee extension, leg curls, calf raises for the, for the lower body.

Have you got suggestions on how to help people implement that?
MikeHOST
19:24
Yeah.
19:26
Um, but I think we might be missing a couple of important, um, points, which we've kind of touched on already when we think about muscle stress.
19:36
So muscle strength is definitely a better predictor of all those kind of activity of daily living outcomes and, um, things like falls, things like your risk of being hospitalized for any reason.
19:49
Um, and obviously going into and requiring aged care.
19:54
Um, One of the challenges we have and why we're not necessarily wholly convinced that muscle strength is the only important factor is that historically we've measured muscle mass using a system called DEXA.
20:16
People probably more familiar with DEXA because it's what's generally used to look at our bone density in osteoporosis assessments.
20:25
But DEXA can be used to look at body composition and it gives us measurement of a metric called our lean mass.

So if someone is trying to lose weight, how can they avoid losing muscle at the same time?
