Wow

... and that's understandable.

The problem is the delays to get the money takes so long.

Now, that's public assistance.

For the individual, it's a little bit more, um, uh, troubling.

Like I just said, most of the money goes to contractors.

The little that does go in individual assistance to individual citizens, um, is, is, is you, you, you apply for it, and you apply for it to FEMA to something called call centers.

[laughs]

What was it like as far as, you know, we say the deep state, but the ruling class of bureaucrats, career politicians, whatever you want to call it, what was that like in that agency?

Well, I got to say this first.

President Trump keeps his promises, and I know he wants to either radically transform FEMA or shut it down, and I know he will keep that promise.

So what it was like for me when I arrived at FEMA the first day, I walked around the seven floors of FEMA kind of chatting with the folks, and what I heard was, we are not ready to do our mission, and our morale is low.

And I've heard that in every federal organization I've worked with, but particularly at FEMA.

So there was much fear.

I arrived when it was in tatters.

So after everything you went through, what is the number one piece of advice you would give FEMA today as their quest to reform this agency?

how you got to where you are now.

Boy, that's interesting.

I never intended to do HVAC.

I actually thought it would be easy at the age of 12.

My dad made me an interesting proposition.

So consider this, you're a 12-year-old kid.

All you want to do is run around all summer.

I want to know what was going on with the dust in your house because there's some very cool lessons behind that as well.

What is it you see in them getting wrong?

I think it's just things you don't think about when you move to another country.

So as an example, me coming here to the Charente, which is quite an unusual place.

It's in the southwest of France where I'm between Poitiers, Limoges, Bordeaux.

And what I didn't realize until I got here was it's not a wine producing region.

How terrible is that for France? So that's one thing.

But also the fact that my French was very, very limited when I arrived.

And this is 10 years from now, if you needed significant daily care and you mentioned your heart condition, where does that happen and who's around you?
