When life yells intermission and you don't know what the next scene looks like, how do you sit in that silence without panicking?

David MendizabalGUEST
I mean, I feel like I always used to believe as a young artist that like my job was to come in with all of the answers, and I've kind of embraced that I really don't know most of the answers, and that that actually is a superpower.

David MendizabalGUEST
I really believe in the power of collective intelligence in a room, you know? That like there is a reason that, that all of these people have come together to tell this story.

David MendizabalGUEST
And so like I often find that like when I don't know the answer, someone else in that room has an idea or a thought that is gonna like spark the next side of conversation, and is gonna like lead us to like, "Oh, that's an interesting path to go down." You know? And I think at the end of the day, like as a director, it's like it is my job to have a real clear vision and a r- clear sort of like north star guiding point of like where are we going and what is this story, and like how do I get all of us with all of our, um, you know, diverse backgrounds and ideas and readings on the play to come together to tell one singular story, you know? And so like I really think, I, you know, I, I don't panic because I'm like, oh, I, I actually just am always like, "I don't know." And I think that's kind of powerful and vulnerable to just be like, "I don't know.

David MendizabalGUEST
What, you know, let's try this."Or like, "I'm stuck." Or like, you know, sometimes it's like, let's move on to something else because, like, I, I can try to squeeze an answer out here, or we can skip ahead and I can figure something out in this next beat, and that's gonna help me understand what I'm trying to get to, you know? Um, and like my favorite thing to do always as a director is like when I'm asked a really hard question, be like, "That's a really great question.
