So David, along that, I would like to talk to you about how the FAO Global Roadmap can help countries and stakeholders move from ambition to practical implementation.
8:40
Thanks for the question.
8:41
So as you already said, many countries have actually this ambition, this aspiration.
8:48
I think if you go around the world and we say, "Okay, how we can make sure that we can provide good food for all today and tomorrow?" Everyone agrees.
8:56
But as we discussed, there's a lot to do.
8:58
And the first thing is we need to get organized.
9:01
We need to get a plan, and this plan is not just about agriculture or education or finance.
11:29
So could you share maybe one concrete example on this practical implementation that you are looking at, uh, where you already see a significant impact?
2:43
He's director of the Agri-Food Economics Division at the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, who began by explaining in more detail the findings of the report.
2:53
In this annual report, we always start by giving a landscape of where we stand in terms of food security and nutrition.
2:59
And the headline figures are always on hunger.
3:02
So this year, at least in 2025, we have 645 million people in chronic hunger.
3:09
So it's a lot, but it's good news in the sense that now for three years in a row, this number has been decreasing, especially since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
3:20
situation.
3:21
And even in places in the world, like in Africa, where numbers were increasing a lot in the recent years, now they have plateaued.
4:56
Did you have any particular regions that were worse off within your report?
16:44
Mm-hmm.
16:45
So now we have nearly 140 million people in Africa that are obese.
16:51
So 310 million people, 309 in chronic hunger, 140 already obese.
16:59
If we look at East Africa, it's 120 million people in chronic hunger and 120 million that are overweight.
17:07
So it's not as extreme as obesity, but really have this double burden of malnutrition, and that way the cost of healthy diets matters, and it even matter more in Africa today because the continent continue to urbanize very quickly, so lifestyle are changing, and if we cannot get in city the right cost of healthy diets, we will face this problem.
17:30
And having this rising obesity, having this problem for non-communicable disease mean that health costs are going to increase in the future.
17:40
It also mean that labor productivity can go down in the future, and Africa need more economic growth, not less.
20:57
Mm-hmm.
16:44
