So does that mean we're jumping ahead a little bit? But like if you were to be working with someone, would you technically diagnose them with social phobia and then specify MPA, at least for you?
15:44
I think I would only need to do that if I was strict on an inclusion criteria for a study, which I have done in the past, where I wanted to make sure this person definitely has MPA.
15:56
I've used the SCID for that aim, and I've taught other interns to use the SCID so we can recruit people that we think are homogeneously similar like that.
16:06
But in that day-to-day practice, no, it's not so important.
16:09
And in fact, much of the work that I do, I believe, is replicable across different types of practitioners.
16:15
I've trained singing teachers and non-clinical professionals to do the kind of work that I do in using ACT coaching rather than ACT psychotherapy to treat performance anxiety.
16:22
And they're definitely not diagnosing people with a SCID or giving them social anxiety questionnaires and diagnosing them with social anxiety.

11:22
You know, it's got six sides here.
11:23
Imagine splitting that in half.
11:26
This is a visual, uh, a visual metaphor, if you will, for psychological flexibility.
11:30
You've got six ways that people can behave more psychologically flexible.
