So I would love to know what's on your list.
4:36
Um, okay.
4:37
Top of my list, 'cause it's fresh in my mind, is yesterday I did a poetry reading at, um, First Baptist Church in Asheville, uh, North Carolina.
4:50
And, um, I haven't done many poetry readings in Baptist churches in, in, in the South.
4:57
And so was not sure how it was gonna go down with my, you know, work and my potty mouth and my, um, politics.
5:10
And, um, it was amazing.
5:12
It was an incredibly beautiful experience.

Yeah

So I would love to know what's on your list.

Um, okay.

6:11
And, um, it was amazing.
6:13
It was an incredibly beautiful experience.
6:16
I found the people, um, to be very warm and welcoming to what I was saying.
6:22
And, uh, I, I got asked a question about, um, you know, why, why am I...

Yeah

And what role did unlearning from evangelicalism play in your writing and your beliefs today?
10:52
So it is worth pointing out that like British evangelicalism is not equivalent to American evangelicalism.
11:01
You know, there are many theologies.
11:04
Well, there's lots of the theology is the same, but the practice is quite different.
11:10
Like obviously even being evangelical in America is a very political position usually.
11:17
And that's not the case in Britain.
11:19
So I always felt, critical and cautious of the evangelical part of my culture.

37:45
can you take me back to the moment when you realized that, I know you touched on this a little bit already, but like, yeah, what clicked around this particular insight?
32:04
I'd love to hear generally how your poems are developed.
32:09
Um, generally it all starts with like an accumulative process.
32:16
So, um, the correct word is actually accretion.
32:21
And so what happens is that I just gather lots of little things.
32:26
And so, um, everything starts in my notes app on my phone like so as i'm going about my life and day and i've almost killed myself driving trying to write down an idea many times um but And that's how it starts, just little lines, and then once I know, once there's something that I, and then I just go with what interests me.
32:50
So if it's grabbing my interest and attention, it will sit and ferment in my mind, and then I'll think of something else that will go with that, something else that will... you know that could could add to that and sometimes they're quite disparate things and sometimes they're they're um all together and it it just kind of flows but really that's it's a cumulative and um and then when like i feel that that kind of creative impulse to to finish something that then i just go with that i tend not to um be disciplined in finishing because I have so many things on the go.
33:31
I really just go with what is interesting me in the moment.
