So when we say America is a shining city on a hill, what do we mean by that exactly?
1:43
Well, I think it's something that people around the world have looked up to.
1:48
And what makes it unique is the principles it was founded on.
1:51
Things like, you know, human dignity and opportunity and freedom.
1:55
And the fact that our rights come from our creator, not from the government or a dictator or a king.
2:01
I think that historically, you know, what that has resulted in, that the The freedom people have enjoyed, the communities and society that's been built, the businesses that have been built and have created opportunity, the upward mobility are all things that people around the world aspire to.
2:18
And that's why we have people who want to come here.
3:05
and draw people to us you know when you're out in the wilderness and in the darkness you're going to walk toward that shining city that you see on a hill and as we want to enforce our borders and enforce our immigration laws to those who want to violate our immigration laws we at the same time want to embrace and lift up those who have been able to come here not for a handout but to actually exceed excel and and actually be a part of the american fabric so have you been focusing on stories like that at american potential

What are some of those roadblocks and what are we doing or should be doing to sort of solve those roadblocks for small business owners?
6:22
Sure.
6:23
Well, first, the government imposes a lot of roadblocks, right? So regulations, unnecessary regulation at the state, local, federal level are really a huge problem.
6:36
And so we've worked a lot on legislation to try to systemically curtail that.
6:41
But we talk to small business owners, entrepreneurs all the time on my podcast.
6:46
to hear about their stories about how, you know, they couldn't get a license for their food truck in this county, even though it's okay in the county, you know, a few blocks over and then they can't operate.
6:55
So regulations are a huge one, licensure issues.
11:06
Yeah,
5:11
Yeah
5:11
... and I'd, I'd, I'd say what we're seeing in New York City right now is one of the scarier examples, and then that, that's kind of reverberating.
5:18
And I think it, it stands to ...
5:21
Uh, we, we would benefit from a better shared understanding of what our founders intended and what they actually said.
5:26
That's why I would go back to the founding document.
5:28
And, you know, I think that that can bring us a shared sense of purpose and direction.
5:32
Um, I think that increased unity would be a great thing, uh, that could come out of this.
7:02
but, but when people dive deep into the document, when they read what the grievances were and the, the rationale behind this, this creed that we sort of aligned ourselves with at that time, our founders did, to say, "This is the birth of a new nation, and it's based on these things that we believe," w- what kind of m- um, response are you getting from people when they, when they start to, when they learn about this for the first time?
