I asked David how the pair seemed when they finally spoke to him at the Jicarilla Apache Police Station in Dulce, New Mexico.

The male, um, [beep] was n- not very talkative.

He just wanted to keep quiet, and it was almost like he didn't want his wife to talk.

But she was being a little more, uh, voiceful, and she would answer my questions, but would offer nothing more than just whatever I asked for.

And, um, uh, it was like, "We're not afraid of anything." You know, it's kinda like they, they knew that it was not gonna go anywhere.

We weren't gonna find anything, and they were very...

They, they felt confident in themselves that, you know, that they could just give me a little tidbit of information and send me on my way, and it would be, uh, it would be forgotten.

The serial burglar was on their radar, but when David asked if he could work alongside the sheriff on the investigation, they shut him down.
