My question for you is when you talk about a case like Howard Cooper, how do you how do we explain this to our children? How do we talk to our children about lynching in 2026?
8:38
That's a that's a interesting question.
8:41
It's a tough question.
8:42
And it definitely connects to what we as a commission were charged to do.
8:48
We had to tell the story.
8:49
And as you said, this is a story that is hard for people to stomach, right? It's a story that was in many cases obscured, right? For example, the case of Howard Cooper was unknown within the history books, the official history books of Towson for the longest time until 2021.

So there's certainly an acknowledgement that this is such a heinous crime, such an affront to humanity, that why would anybody want to know and why would we give you that awareness of this heinousness? So the way that we talk about it in 2026 is that we still have so many people in this world, not even specifying racial terror lynching, we have so many people in this world that do not see the humanity of other people.

What was some of the, was there any common themes or things you were hearing from families?
