David RockHOST
really really central david i want to dig more into the comment of how variable it is but before we do um you know what can you tell us about the brain processes involved um i know it's not one there's not like a you know one network that does it i know it's it's a complex system but what what do we know about the brain processes involved

David CreswellGUEST
yeah yeah um uh you know i i'm not a fan of talking about brain processes being located in one spot or another and more about you know neural systems working together but surprisingly in the metacognition uh neuroscience literature there is sort of a kind of a localization that's happened to some extent um where studies seem to be really converging on the prefrontal cortex, and particularly these anterior regions of the prefrontal cortex, the sort of most highly evolved human-like, you know, or maybe human-centric types of regions of the brain.

David CreswellGUEST
And, you know, there's studies, I was sort of looking at this in preparation for this webinar to kind of see where things had landed.

David CreswellGUEST
And you know, meta-analyses that sort of synthesize across neuroimaging studies.

David CreswellGUEST
We can probably, you know, link to it for folks that looked at 47 studies, and they really find that these types of metacognitive processes are really localized in anterior prefrontal cortex.

David CreswellGUEST
You get it in dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, depending on the type of metacognitive you know, demand that you might be placing on people And we've done studies, David, you might remember this, I spoke about this resource maybe like 15 years ago at NeuroLeadership about affect labeling.
