I think that key piece there is that it's kind of like a VPN and it's kind of like a Tor exit node in that both of those things provide anonymity.

But one of the differences between a VPN and a residential proxy is that a VPN provides anonymity, but that traffic comes from likely a data center.

It could come from a known entity.

You're using a particular brand of VPN and those VPNs have IP addresses or use blocks of IP addresses that are essentially designated for that purpose.

And so on the receiving end of traffic, a website that you visit, They have the capability of identifying that you're coming from a VPN.
