Yeah
8:23
...
8:23
Network.
8:24
Um, as we were working on that initially, we kinda cast the vision, and then everybody went out and was doing their piece of it, which was fine, but the problem is everybody's doing their particular piece, but was it all coming together the way it should? And so there was, again, you know right away when there's a lack of clear direction because there's tension, and it's not that people were mad at each other, but I'm not sure what you're doing, and she's not sure what he's doing, and, and so there's a tension there.
8:50
There's a frustration there.
8:52
And so finally we just said, "Okay, we need to start having meetings." And we tried to decide do we need to do it every day.
8:57
We went with Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and they were morning check-ins, and we would meet.
13:15
Can you just speak to that a little bit, how you've established that?
11:48
So almost even pretend like I'm just hired or just talk through your process of how you set teams up to become experts in fields.
11:56
Yeah.
11:57
Well, so a couple of things I'd say, Whitney, first of all, I'm slow typically in trying to hire somebody.
12:02
And I watch sometimes, especially when you're trying to hire your first, second, third, or fourth person, you're just so excited to have the opportunity to hire somebody.
12:10
And what I see happen again and again is somebody that you don't know all that well, but they kind They kind of look good.
12:15
They say the right things.
12:16
And so, yeah, they're going to be great.

Talk about why a shared experience is so valuable to you.
10:48
And it gets dropped pretty quickly.
10:51
Hard to imagine.
10:52
We go to a conference, we get all fired up and we do this as leaders in our teams.
10:56
I mean, we go and then we come back full of ideas and we try to share that with the rest of the team.
11:02
And they just kind of sit there and look at us and glaze over in their eyes and figure, you know what, let's wait a week or two.
11:08
He, she will forget about what they learned.
11:10
And then everything is back to normal.

6 MINS LATER

17:37
But when you think about, okay, when a pastor says yes, when a business leader says yes to this, What is the big vision here? How do you see, you know, gosh, I'll be crazy and say, how do you see the world changing when people say yes to this being a priority for their organizations?
11:58
Mm
11:58
... and how both I could learn from them, but, uh, how they could help us in the church context.
12:03
And my goal was always to say, "If you're gonna come and be a part of our church, I would love for you to be so good at what you're doing that people are gonna come five years, 10 years from now from all around the country to see what you're doing," whether it's in small groups, as you mentioned, or whether it's in technology or whatever the area is, but you've gotta be so much better than me.
12:21
And so I found myself really saying, "How can I pull people around me that are way better than me and can take things way further than me?" And I don't know that that's always the mindset.
12:29
Sometimes in church leadership, and probably in business as well, we think we've gotta be the top dog.
12:34
We think we've gotta know the most- Be the best educated, be the best leader.
12:38
But the problem with that is then you're kinda capped out at who you are-
