Did that come up as as you were looking into it

oh yeah i mean to me that's you know the heart of this movie as i see it is how luis you know was was born now he was born in this country you know he's not an immigrant like like even like my dad was he was born here and not only that but his parents were born here and And before them, his grandparents were actually living in Nogales.
6:35
And when it was Mexico on the other side of what is now the border became the US, then they moved over.
6:42
They were the sort of original immigrants of their family.
6:44
And it had just the year prior been Mexico.
6:48
So it wouldn't even have been an immigration.

With that as Luis's background, the fact that he just kind of came into consciousness as a young child and felt as he looked around him and people thought that he didn't belong there, thought that he probably didn't know how to speak English, which he did, and maybe he didn't fit in It's just that the film has always been about this question of belonging, who belongs in America.

What kept you going when you kept on receiving rejection letters from these big companies that didn't see the Latino community as an important group to reach out to?
