If this is part of their day-to-day, how does a parent manage this in a way that is healthy and that is helpful to that child's development?
15:36
I think we've got to go on a bit of a journey ourselves to become a bit more intelligent about artificial intelligence and what's going on in terms of hyperconnectivity.
15:45
So the first thing is we can't bury our head in the digital sand and pretend it's not happening.
15:49
And it's interesting because a lot of parents will go, well, my child doesn't use chat GPT, so they're not engaging with AI.
15:56
Your child is engaging with AI on a daily basis, I'm telling you.
16:01
Every time that they're using the internet, often in school now, every time they're searching something online, the AI is embedded into every single bit of digital data to the point where we're now talking about this idea that one of the stats I use in the book is that by the end of 2026 this year, It's predicted that 90% of the internet will be built on artificial intelligence information.
16:26
Now, if you think about the way AI works is it works like a net.

We've got to be aware of the dangers, but there are some good things too.
2:48
It colors everything that we see.
2:50
And when we're born is affected by the cultural milestones that we sort of see in society.
2:56
So for me, as a, a millennial, I can remember 9/11 as one of those cultural milestones where we remember life before it and then life after it.
3:06
And of course, for this generation, we could probably say the pandemic was that cultural milestone, which I'm sure we'll talk about today.
3:13
But in essence, this generation, Gen Alpha, um, they're being shaped by cultural milestones.
3:18
They're also a generation that are being shaped hugely by technology as well, and that technological lens that they grow up in has had a massive influence on the way that they see the world.

8 MINS LATER

11:07
Yes
38:06
Can you talk about Kurt and what he found during World War I?
38:10
Yeah, so Kurt Hahn was, um, one of these soldiers in World War I, and what they were finding was that in World War I, often in the sea warfare, um, people would get shipwrecked and they'd get lost at sea, and you'd have, uh, soldiers who were in the wa- water, pilots who were in the water.
38:28
And what they were finding was that the young men and the old men who were left in the water, um, to, to survive for hours and then before they were rescued, it was the old men that were surviving.
38:42
It was the older guys.
38:43
And the young men were unfortunately not making it through.
38:47
And then they did a lot of research into this, and they found that what it was was that the older guys had had more experience of life, and they'd experienced setbacks and failure and problems before, and they realized that, "I'm in this mess now, but I got out of a mess before," so they hold on.
39:02
They tread water long enough to be rescued.
43:30
Right
