For Mac Eyes Only 479 – Apple of My iOS

Darren DaviesGUEST
I was going to mention something about something that you said, Dave, but I forgot what I was going to say.

Any other bugaboos you've run into, Dave, or any of you, Darren, Eric, any other bugaboos you've run into with iOS 27 that might give someone pause about upgrading?

Yeah.

Darren DaviesGUEST
So of course if you've got four or five or, or, or more of those on, on your system after upgrade, um, you're using up a, quite a few more gigabytes than you may have been expecting.

Darren DaviesGUEST
So, uh, that's, uh, unfortunately that's the price we pay for having, um, on device, um, multiple, multi-modal, um, language models that each do a different little thing.

Darren DaviesGUEST
People, um, um, equate, um, AI to being the chatbot part, but that's only a small part of Apple, Apple Intelligence.

But is that the primary reason for considering that? Or why not a NAS?

Darren DaviesGUEST
Well, one of the reasons I was going away from the idea of a NAS is because essentially a NAS is its own built-in computer as well, controlling the distribution of files.

Darren DaviesGUEST
And if the NAS part goes down or becomes unsupported, so the problem I had last time was I bought a NAS and two years later it stopped being supported and then everything went downhill from there.

Darren DaviesGUEST
So if I base my network sharing on a computer I'm already keeping up to date and maintaining, then I don't have to maintain another operating system on a NAS, for instance, and deal with an issue whereby if something goes wrong with that operating system or the NAS itself, the enclosure, that I'm stuck.
