Let's talk about this because I think we all can feel it whenever our sleep is disturbed, is not the best, but we didn't know that maybe it could also help prevent certain diseases.
12:00
You're absolutely right.
12:01
We're learning more and more and that's important because nearly one out of three adults in the United States aren't getting the recommended amount of sleep, less than seven hours a night.
12:08
And what we're learning from this research is that it might not just be the hours that you're counting, but it might also be how you're getting that sleep or the quality.
12:15
And in order to get this, researchers followed nearly 100,000 people.
12:18
They wore wrist monitors to track their sleep and they followed their health outcomes for nearly nine years.
12:22
And what they found was that specific stages of sleep were associated with health outcomes, more specifically REM sleep or that cycle of sleep that we call rapid eye movement.
12:59
What are some tips for better sleep?

... symptoms of thyroid imbalance?
111:30
So to understand this, you wanna think of your thyroid as kind of a gas pedal on your metabolism.
111:34
So when you have too much or when you have an overactive thyroid or hyperthyroid, that can be associated with symptoms of an- anxiety.
111:41
Sometimes you're feeling hot and sweaty.
111:42
It can even include heart arrhythmias or palpitations, frequent bowel movements, and even unexplained weight loss.
111:48
When you're having an underactive thyroid or hypothyroid, that can come with symptoms of feeling cold, feeling tired, fatigued, and weak, sometimes constipation, unexplained weight gain, and even, in certain cases, depression.
111:59
Now, if you can understand, these symptoms can be variable from person to person, and they can look like many things.
112:10
How do you actually manage thyroid issues?
9:33
What are some symptoms of thyroid imbalance?

All right, Dr. D., so for those taking GLP-1 drugs, what should they know about before taking supplements, other supplements?
118:56
I think, Gio, number one, you wanna make sure that you know that these are real medications, real interventions that require medical supervision.
119:03
The weight loss can be dramatic, anywhere from 15 to 20% with some of these GLP-1 products, compared to 5 to 7% that you typically see with lifestyle intervention.
119:12
I think what's also important for patients to know is that as these medications take effect and you see that appetite get reduced and you start likely consuming less calories, you wanna make sure that your body gets what it needs, and that is from whole foods, and then supplements can help to fill in that gap.
119:26
But you wanna make sure that you're doing this with a medical provider, and if you can, a registered dietician to help optimize your diet for you.
119:53
Help us understand what's fact and what's myth here.
119:58
Our medical unit has gotten a lot of these questions, so this is a little bit of fact mixed with a lot of magic marketing.
120:04
And to understand this retinol, there has been evidence that it stimulates collagen, and it can have modest improvements on your appearance.
13:32
So what does this mean for public health?
13:34
That's absolutely right.
13:35
The number of vaccination rates among children in kindergarten, in, in school this year and in the past three years has declined.
13:40
If you compare, for example, the pre-pandemic period from 2018 to 2019 where we hovered just around 95%, we've dropped down just below 93%.
13:49
That might not seem like a lot, but that equates to more than 280,000 children in kindergarten that are not up to date on their vaccination.
13:56
Now, these numbers are not spread out, uh, um, generally across the United States.
14:00
There are pocket communities that are very high risk, and that's what's driving the transmission.
Jacqueline LeeCORRESPONDENT
14:53
Yeah.
6:15
When we came in, the hill was completely on fire
6:19
This morning, flood watches are still up until 1:00 PM from Kansas City to St. Louis, right into parts of central Illinois.
6:26
But that line is gonna keep blowing east, and today it's a huge area that's included in the severe storms forecast.
6:33
Dallas up through Little Rock, over to Indianapolis, Rochester, even Burlington, Vermont.
6:38
Damaging wind today is the primary hazard.
6:40
And I know you all are having a very hot morning into a hot afternoon, but it is going to be broken apart this, by this very front, and it's gonna come with strong to severe storms tomorrow.
6:51
So anywhere from the Jersey Shore, look at 6:30 PM, back through Delamar- Delaware and Washington, DC, George, those storms could have some hail and damaging wind with them as well.
10:31
What do we know about how this outbreak started?
4:32
What does that mean? What does that say to you?
4:34
Well, although this response has been highly visible, CDC teams transport and transfer to the National Quarantine Center, that response means that federal health officials essentially do not currently believe that this poses a high risk of widespread community transmission.
4:46
So what we know is that these 17 passengers will be flown to Nebraska, the National Quarantine Unit.
4:51
This is a specialized facility that specializes in highly infectious or potentially infectious diseases, and if they are cleared at that point, passengers will be allowed to go home and self-monitor for up to 42 days.
5:02
Now, that tells us, uh, that that decision, or that decision suggests that public health officials believe, again, that the risk of widespread community transmission is low.
5:10
Important to note here that World Health Organization is qualifying this as a cluster, not an outbreak, meaning that it is geographically isolated to the boat.
5:17
At this point, all confirmed cases have been in passengers who have been on the boat.
speaker_1UNKNOWN
5:27
Uh, what's so special about that specific facility there in Nebraska right now?
19:21
Now, why do you say that's important being a doctor, but also why is it important for your patients to ask that?
19:26
I think it's so important in life to continue asking why.
19:28
We have to keep asking why until everything makes sense.
19:31
And not only does that matter with your environment, your community, but also with your own health.
19:35
You both know I'm very big, all three of you know, I'm very big on health literacy.
19:40
I really do believe that that is the key to making things better because when you understand why your diagnosis matters, why your medicine matters, why your risk matters, instead of medicine being done something or something being done to you, you now take control.
19:52
And we both agree that when patients lead the way, the outcomes are always better.
21:08
So what is the one piece of advice that you would give our viewers, a patient, for coming in to an appointment or something emergency?
10:19
... how do you know if that's what it is or if it is a cold or something like that?
10:22
You've got to keep track.
10:24
Uh, one of the reasons why we talk to patients about making sure that they're keeping track is because it's so hard to pinpoint the exact cause.
10:29
So when you start tracking and writing down, that's when it's really helpful.
10:32
But let's talk about when it happens.
10:34
Most often it happens in your 30s, although it can happen at any point during your lifetime.
10:39
Also important to understand for adult onset allergies is that sometimes it can just come out of nowhere.
11:55
Oh.
