So I suppose, why did you choose to tell the story of inequality through children and their lives? And what does that kind of approach reveal that sometimes, I suppose, like headline statistics like the Gini coefficient or other measures of inequality often miss or fail to capture?
6:58
Two reasons.
6:59
The first is that very few people blame children for the circumstances they find themselves in.
7:05
A, a few people do, [laughs] and, and we have to watch out for that.
7:08
You know, they say they pick them on parents and...
7:10
But people tend to like children, be sympathetic to children.
7:15
But the s- the other reason was statistical.

20:32
Or is the problem more just that there are these spaces, the proliferation of very high fee-paying schools and other more diffuse, I suppose, social structures that exist to cocoon these kind of pockets of privilege?
11:55
smaller. So kind of who, who, who benefits, if anyone, from all this, uh, all this, all this crisis talk?
12:04
Uh, my view is that from the crises which are promoted more, which are issues such as immigration, the benefit is to people who don't want you to be thinking about the biggest crisis.
12:20
So for those who don't want you to be worrying about inequality and cost of living, and who's, who's eating all the pies, if you like, uh, want you to worry about, uh, immigrants and that group.
12:36
So it's when those crises which are over-promoted are the kind of clue.
12:40
The folk who want you to worry about AI taking jobs don't want you to notice that we're actually maybe in a recession anyway, and we're not employing young people because firms don't have enough money or don't feel they have enough money to do it.
12:52
And it's much easier to say, "Oh, it's AI," than it is to say, "Actually, uh, you know, the first thing we cut is recruitment at the moment." But it's looking at the difference between what the public say are the things that they worry about most and other lists of crises.
13:09
And you can see people trying to promote other, other things up then, and then you have to ask, well, what are the motives for this? And another big motive is, is clicking, is simply getting attention.

Do you want to take us through them? And then I want to ask you about why you felt the need to kind of set it out.
