has aroused fears because the suggestion that it might be able to hack computer systems and it may be able to independently hack computer systems so of course job security is a real concern and a real fear and not to be in any way downplayed but these bigger issues around ai i mean who is in charge of making sure that ai can't just go off and hack the computers of, I don't know, the NHS? Who is there to ensure that AI doesn't identify a military target and potentially go and kill somebody or some people independently of human supervision? Where is the appetite for controlling that?

Absolutely.

Well, there's a huge appetite for it.

But your other question about who is doing it is the bigger one, which is currently no one really like the labs themselves are doing it.

And, you know, I'll give credit to Anthropic for having a very cautious and mindful approach.

They were the ones who raised their concern about mythos and brought it to governments to try and engage with them and with other security companies like, you know, to the people who can help make sure that enterprises, large businesses and ordinary people don't get hacked.

They did a good job there.

But again, that isn't, your research suggests that the concerns about that are not just a slightly nerdy minority concern.

What does it feel like when you're standing up on the American Idol stage, getting those kinds of compliments from the legendary judges?

Well, first and foremost, I'm literally grateful for the opportunity to have participated on this show, but getting those type of compliments, knowing that I try my hardest to put the work in, to be my best self, to be the best version of myself, it just, it made me feel really good, really special, that someone else is paying attention to my work-

Mm-hmm.

Not just as an artist, but just as a person, and learn how to, you know, continue to motivate people and then motivate myself, encourage myself, and encourage others as well, because I'm a preacher as well, so I wanna keep trying to become a better preacher.

Um, I'm a schoolteacher.

I wanna become a better teacher.

Tell me about Clair Patterson and how his search for the age of the Earth ultimately uncovered lead contamination on this global scale.

This is a wild story.

So after Ethyl gasoline sort of blankets its way across the country, and eventually the world, it's just everywhere, and it is for a few decades, until the 1950s when this scientist at Caltech in Los Angeles, his name's Clair Patterson, he's a geologist, a geochemist.

So he's not really related to industrial chemicals at all.

But his goal in his doctoral dissertation is to find the age of the Earth.

He wants to discover how old the Earth is.

No one's ever known.
