Uh, you had the United Kingdom say that they're gonna have an AI safety summit in November where they'll bring together a bunch of different countries.

Daniel RemlerGUEST
Japan was leading the G7 at that time, uh, and said that they wanted to have a dedicated track to discuss AI.

Daniel RemlerGUEST
So at that point, the question becomes, is it really worth it for the United States to launch our own initiative to kind of set the rules for AI? We made the calculus that it didn't make sense when two of our closest allies had their pet initiatives, and we didn't wanna Step on their toes unnecessarily.

Daniel RemlerGUEST
And so we thought, well, let's use the G7, which is a kind of coalition of some of our closest allies in, in Europe and Asia, to drive very quickly forward on a set of voluntary commitments for AI governance.

And so what does this mean for us, for, for, for economics in the United States? I understand these Chinese models are much cheaper, and they're easier for people to customize for their own purposes, and so that's, that's a major economic as well as national security threat to the United States, would you say?
