What else did you see that you think you can pin on decriminalization? I think that

Daniel MyranGUEST
it's – again, it's important to emphasize that when we walked into this – There was a group of proponents and the government was contributing to this, saying, like, this is a solution or this is a major solution to the current drug crisis, that we're going to do this.

Daniel MyranGUEST
We're going to see that because of a combination of things, we're going to see less stigma, more treatment seeking.

Daniel MyranGUEST
People will be less likely to use drugs, you know, alone or in rushed circumstances and that we're going to see very, very significant and important decreases in overdose outcomes.

Daniel MyranGUEST
This is reducing some of the conversations and we're going to see a surge in overdoses.

Daniel MyranGUEST
And, you know, and the results are saying it probably doesn't cause large impacts at the population level.

If you are a federal or provincial policymaker, if you are on the criminal justice side of the system, what's the takeaway here? How do we impact the opioid crisis?

Like, how do we know for sure that this is actually true, that this is not due to increased awareness and better diagnosis?

Daniel MyranGUEST
There's a really interesting pattern when if you look at part of the challenge of these birth cohort studies is that the young people have not actually gotten, like someone born in 2000 has not made it to their 30s yet.

Daniel MyranGUEST
So you don't know what their pattern of psychosis is going to be because that's in the future from now.

Daniel MyranGUEST
And someone born in the 60s, because the health databases that we use to study them, they didn't exist when they were 14.

Daniel MyranGUEST
So you have this interesting pattern where the older birth cohorts, you only get to watch them later in life.

So is this kind of the moment where we need to start investing in these programs?
