45:54
You're not used to that experience?
45:58
You know, Superior Spider-Man's a weird duck because it comes out and there's all the death threats.
46:07
I had a next-door neighbor and she was vacationing in Italy.
46:12
And she called me up on the day it came out and went, are you okay? And I'm like, what? I'm like, what do you mean? She's like, I'm watching CNN.
46:26
And I was on the bottom crawl of CNN next to the YouTube singer Psy with Gangnam Style hitting a record.
46:35
and Brad Pitt's new humanitarian project.
46:39
And then the third thing was Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott receives death threats over Amazing Spider-Man 700.

53:25
He's a
27:41
Yeah, yeah.
27:41
Um, and, and I, I talked to Ger- anyway, um, so i- I got to do that, and, uh, with Marcos Martin.
27:49
And, um, th- next, coming up, like, I, I did the Zod, uh, short with, uh, Lucas.
27:57
I'm doing this other Zod short with Rachel.
28:00
Um, but the other thing that's coming up is, uh, Amazing Spider-Man 1000.
28:07
And, uh, th- this means the world to me.
28:10
So, uh, I got to write 600, 700, and 800.

20 MINS LATER

48:19
Yeah.
21:37
brubaker and everything i mean i know he wanted to create her own stuff and we're all thrilled but i also think it it kind of you know it it accelerated i think him out of there
21:48
i you know how like you see presidential photos like young obama old obama This was not so white.
22:01
I remember.
22:03
You could see it, like these streaks of white appearing in my beard.
22:08
And it was all Spider-Man.
22:10
And there was a point near the end, because I was also doing Silver Surfer with Mike Allred.
22:20
And I was I was I was like losing it because now I'm no matter what, I'm up to three books a month at minimum.

back as editor-in-chief I pulled up an old interview that I had done with him and we were talking about Spiderverse so I mean certainly you know you gotta go a It was
6:07
at DC.
6:09
And before that, I went to his...
6:14
Steve, the guy who will be the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, he had this amazing show.
6:20
It was Kerbam? Or Kerblam? Something like that.
6:24
It was, yeah.
6:24
Where he had an improv group.

Is it ever a struggle to
33:57
So can you tell us where th- that previous storyline left off? Where do readers need to begin to kind of get a primer on this story? That all-important question of how do I get started with Brand New Day?
34:08
This is the magic of Spider- of Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day number one.
34:14
No homework is required.
34:17
You can just jump in.
34:19
Along with Marcus doing, like, the heavy lifting and, m- we have, uh, 20-page issues, and Marcus is drawing 19 of each.
34:27
And our first issue is a 25-pager, a giant oversize, and Marcus is drawing 22 pages of that.
34:35
So everything you need to know, it's all in one issue.
35:35
So of course, you don't wanna spoil anything, but what can you tell us about the basic premise of the story, how much in universe time has passed since that original story, new characters, themes? Tell, tell us what you can about this, this amazing story that we're looking forward to.
26:30
Uh, so the next Spider-Sona I wanna talk about is probably the most delicious, the Golden Sponge Cake Spider-Man.
26:38
The Golden Sponge Cake Spider-Man.
26:40
In the '70s, there were all these house ads in Marvel comics where bad guys would be doing a crime, and a Marvel hero would fly in or, in the case of Spider-Man, swing in, and they would stop them by throwing golden sponge cakes or fruit pies at the villain, who would then stop to pick it up and be so entranced in eating this that someone like Spider-Man could then web them up.
27:06
So one of the fun things we did working on the first Spider-Verse comics is we showed that that universe is canon, and those adventures actually happened.
27:17
And we learn in Spider-Boy, issue 10, that one of his magic powers is he can produce a golden sponge cake from anywhere and throw it, 'cause Spider-Man doesn't have pockets.
29:20
Who is the un-hyphenated SpiderMan?
29:23
That's SpiderMan [laughs] whose secret identity is Peter Palmer, is the Spider-Man of our Earth, but slightly shifted.
29:31
He's 616, like, B.
21:57
right
21:58
um i i was still like rented stimpy guy i wasn't even she helped guy yet um but i was up there and i so got the vibe i understood what the assignment was and i i so wanted to work on one of these and i got to be like a you know, a phantom hand in the background helping on some things.
22:17
Like they needed an extra villain for Spider-Boy.
22:22
And I pitched them Bizarnage, the flaky white symbiote that says, me want to eat your brain.
22:32
And they used it.
22:33
Carl loved it, and he's on the cover even.
22:36
And then when they were doing the second round, I'm friends with Ty Templeton, and he was doing, instead of Dark Claw, Dark Claw Adventures.

12 MINS LATER

34:49
Do they just sort of flow out of you? Like, are you just is there a part of your brain that's always spinning Spidey a little
