Are you in the camp where you think it's better for the game if markets like the Dodgers and the Yankees are in the World Series and competitive, or are you just fatigued on the Dodgers just getting everybody all the time?

Well, the Dodgers didn't do anything wrong.

They just took advantage of an opportunity.

Because growing up or covering sports in the Northeast for a, a, you know, almost my entire career, the Yankees were the evil empire.

Everybody hated the Yankees.

And then all of a sudden, the Yankees came back to earth, and then everybody was okay.

Suddenly they weren't the evil empire.

It was just whoever I put in there, and I went on a camping trip with my son.

He was in Boy Scouts, I think at the time, Cub Scouts.

And I didn't have phone service, and I said to management, "You guys make the decision.

Who do you wanna see when you're watching? Who do you think would pair well with me?" Because, you know, I'm thinking of you or Linda Cohn sitting there next to me, and then I realize, I forget who in management said they were picking Kenny Mayne.

It just leaves you a little bit wondering about what's next and what's, so I don't blame you for telling people stay put.

Yeah, but I was going home to my attic to do a radio show.

You were going to NFL Network, which is backed by the NFL.

Right.

I'm in my attic with three other guys And doing a national radio show with animals running around us and barking and cats on desk there.

My wife's getting kids out the door for breakfast.

I mean, I left because I needed to go home to be with my family.

(laughs) He goes, "They're all albinos," and he gone back.

I just, I just love that story.

But, I mean, we were in the middle of nowhere, Bristol, Connecticut.

You got a McDonald's, a Friendly's that closed down, but you're kind of running a, a good portion of the sports world, you know, that... every single night.

And it was, it was exciting.

It was fun.

Uh, when you think of the things about your show that make you proudest, the 20 years, you're retiring in, uh, two and a half years, what is it about your show that gives you the most personal pride when you allow yourself the moment to feel personal pride?

We- were you in discussions for the Jeopardy show?

I was.

I, I met with Steve Moscow, who was the head of Sony, and he f- that day on my show, for some reason, the guys were asking about, "What game show would you host?" And I said, "Jeopardy." The show ends, get a call, Steve Moscow from Sony.

He's in France, and he says, "Hey, I'm gonna be in New York, I'm gonna talk to you about hosting Jeopardy." Now, I just think he's fucking with me, like, maybe somehow he heard I was talking about Jeopardy.

And I'd met him one other time.

And I meet him in New York, and then, uh, he said, "Look, if Alex doesn't sign this contract, uh, I want you to be the host of Jeopardy." I said, "Okay." And he goes, um, "In the meantime, we're gonna do Sports Jeopardy.

Have you host that, it'll be on the set.
